About The Position

This role is responsible for the onboarding, development, coaching, mentoring, and performance management of all drivers and helpers. Drivers and helpers will report directly to this position, with no other management jobs reporting into the Senior Operations Manager. The position requires establishing and maintaining positive relationships with all frontline employees and spending the majority of the day in the field with them.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree (accredited) or in lieu of degree, High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and two (2) years of relevant work experience.
  • 2 years of relevant work experience (in addition to education requirement).
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Legally eligible to work in the country where the position is located.
  • Valid Driver's License.

  • Experience managing a team in a unionized environment preferred.
  • Experience in environmental, transportation and/or logistics industries preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Onboarding new frontline employees, ensuring they have the necessary tools, instruction, and feedback for successful daily duties.
  • Meeting with new frontline employees daily to ensure consistent communication and support during onboarding.
  • Providing timely and consistent touchpoints with frontline employees.
  • Regularly reviewing best practices to enhance daily performance.
  • Focusing on understanding and progressing frontline employee career goals.
  • Identifying and addressing improvement opportunities and collaborating with frontline employees to ensure continued success.
  • Actively practicing and seeking feedback on coaching conversations.
  • Leading by example to ensure safety practices are paramount with each employee.
  • Teaching and developing an understanding of the WM Way.
  • Conducting Root Cause Investigations for all injuries and incidents, ensuring consistent discipline and retraining.
  • Documenting and maintaining records required by regulatory agencies such as the Ministry of Transportation.
  • Reviewing and auditing documentation related to route operations on a daily basis (e.g., DVIRs, driver time and attendance, open tickets), following up where appropriate.
  • Visiting customers and customer sites to evaluate and resolve safety issues, seeking service alternatives where appropriate.
