About The Position

JLL is seeking a Data Center Senior Operating Engineer for an on-site role in Topeka, KS, with BNSF. The Operating Engineer will focus on operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing facility equipment across all systems. This role requires technical expertise in one craft area (Electrical, HVAC, Piping/Plumbing, Central Utility Plant Operations) and multi-skilling in others to ensure the Data Center maintains 100% uptime and the client's occupied high-rise facility is kept in optimal condition.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Two years of trades schooling in electrical system design, refrigeration and HVAC
  • Experience working in Data Centers/Raised Floor Environment
  • Working knowledge of computer applications including Word and Excel
  • Licenses as required by authority having jurisdiction
  • Expertise in one specific craft area: Electrical, HVAC, Piping/Plumbing, Central Utility Plant Operations, Water- and Air-Cooled Chiller Operations.
  • Familiarity with building automation systems, power management systems and fire/life safety.

  • Working knowledge of computer applications including Word and Excel Preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance, monitoring, and repairs to Mechanical, Plumbing, Structural, Furniture, Fire, Life Safety, and Control systems for the facility.
  • Maintain facility services, preventative maintenance, purchasing and inventory control, contracted maintenance, general maintenance, and technical proficiency.
  • Maintain HVAC systems and associated equipment at optimum performance levels through cleaning, inspecting, calibrating, and changing parts.
  • Record readings and adjust equipment as necessary for proper operation.
  • Comply with departmental policy for safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Maintain a clean and safe workplace.
  • Perform periodic checks of tool and instrument inventory.
  • Monitor the quality and pricing of maintenance work performed by outside contractors.
  • Comply with all safety procedures, maintaining good housekeeping and safety of work areas.
  • Recognize danger and safety hazards and propose methods to eliminate them.
  • Maintain compliance with State, County, or City Ordinances, Codes, or Laws.
  • Complete all required safety trainings as scheduled.
  • Participate in the Good Catch/Near Miss program.
  • Generate monthly reports for Chief Engineer.
  • Generate methods of procedure for critical equipment.
  • Complete year-end annual employee reviews.
  • Escalate problems or issues to Chief Engineer in a timely manner.
  • Attend work and safety meetings as required.
