About The Position

Under the supervision of the Infrastructure Manager, the Senior Network Administrator is responsible for providing system- and network-related solutions for the City's information-technology assets. In the absence of the Infrastructure Manager, the Senior Network Administrator provides direction and support to Network & System Administrator I & II on topics related to City network infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field from an accredited institution or a combination of education and experience equivalent to three (5) years.
  • Must have one of the following certifications: Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), CompTIA Network+, SolarWinds Certified Professional, VMWare Certified Technical Associate - Network Virtualization (VCTA-NV) or related certification or agree to obtain one within the first year of employment.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must possess the ability to work independently identifying resources and make independent decisions.
  • Must be able to lead and work as part of a team and be willing to evolve/learn as technology changes.
  • Intelligent, self-motivated, well organized and detail oriented.
  • Ability to document processes and share information with subordinates.

Nice To Haves

  • Candidates with experience in municipal government strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the operation of networking equipment and assist in the creation of strict maintenance standards and develop new strategies to optimize server operation.
  • Maintains equipment refresh cycles and makes recommendations for the purchase of new/replacement equipment if needed.
  • Facilitates email systems, as well as configure desktop development alternative.
  • Serve as the second point of contact for all network modifications or expansions.
  • Works within tight time frames – this will often require the ability to quickly decide what is most important and what can be delayed and report that to the Infrastructure Manager.
  • Stay plugged into emerging technology and industry trends and apply them into the operations; in addition to creating training sessions for junior employees to increase knowledge and productivity related to computer networks.
  • Perform day-to-day administration of the City's network infrastructure.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot network performance and security issues.
  • Install, maintain, upgrade, and troubleshoot routers, gateways, firewalls, and other networking infrastructure for local area and wide area networks (LAN/WAN), including Internet connectivity.
  • Train and provide troubleshooting procedures to helpdesk personnel for first-line network issues.
  • Train and provide troubleshooting procedures to Network & Systems Administrator I & II for Tier 2 network issues.
  • Directly troubleshoot, test, and maintain the City Network equipment and/or oversee the troubleshooting, testing, and maintenance efforts of junior personnel.
  • Learn and implement industry best practices and ensure that information is disseminated to personnel on the infrastructure team.
  • Oversee the development and deployment new features and facilitate related procedures and tools if necessary.
