We’re hiring a full-time Senior Mortgage Loan Underwriter for our Homeownership Division. As the Senior Mortgage Loan Underwriter, you will play a key part in advancing our mission by making thoughtful, responsible lending decisions that open doors for New Hampshire residents.

Requirements

  • At least five years relevant work experience (in residential lending, reviewing credit documentation and underwriting to agency and investor guidelines) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of all eligibility and underwriting requirements (law, regulations, policies, and guidelines) set by the agencies.
  • Underwriting experience required.
  • FHA Direct Endorsement designation required. VA SAR designation highly preferred, knowledge of VA guidelines required.
  • Experience with Encompass preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English at a proficient level.

Responsibilities

  • Own the underwriting process end-to-end for residential loan applications, thoughtfully evaluating income, assets, credit, and employment to make informed, responsible lending decisions.
  • Make confident credit decisions aligned with NH Housing and agency guidelines, delivering timely approvals and clear, well-supported denials.
  • Partner closely with processors and loan officers to keep files moving, communicating proactively to gather information, resolve questions, and maintain momentum.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to participating originators, offering creative, practical solutions and guidance to structure loans that work for both borrowers and program requirements.
  • Build strong relationships with external partners, serving as a go-to resource for issue resolution while collaborating across teams to support lenders and originators effectively.
