About The Position

MITRE’s AI and Mission Enablement Department within the Mission Computing Division is seeking a Senior Mission Solutions Architect to serve as a technical individual contributor and front-door partner between mission teams and Mission Computing capabilities. The role independently shapes solution architectures, discovers and translates customer needs, evaluates technical tradeoffs, and helps mission teams move from an initial need to an executable delivery path. The position connects mission needs, customer demand, platform options, access pathways, and solution-design tradeoffs to executable architectures and delivery plans. It works with mission users, platform teams, laboratories, Enterprise Technology, Information Security Services, and technical communities to help make approved AI and computing capabilities practical, discoverable, and usable for mission work.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of related experience with a bachelor's degree, or 3 years with a master's degree, or a PhD with relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
  • Experience applying solution architecture, systems architecture, requirements analysis, mission-needs translation, platform integration, secure computing, access patterns, data workflows, cloud or hybrid platforms, developer tooling, mission computing, or related technical practices.
  • Experience engaging customers or mission stakeholders to understand needs and independently translate them into solution concepts, architecture products, implementation guidance, backlog entries, or delivery roadmaps.
  • Experience evaluating technical options and tradeoffs, analyzing information from multiple sources, and identifying risks, dependencies, and practical solutions to complex problems.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information, build consensus, and collaborate with technical users, project leaders, platform teams, Enterprise Technology partners, security or compliance stakeholders, and senior leadership; ability to lead defined tasks or small technical efforts as needed.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Government-issued security clearance; U.S. citizenship is required for security-clearance consideration.
  • Ability to work on-site at least 3 days per week in McLean, VA or Bedford, MA, and travel up to 5%.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, cybersecurity, systems engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience performing customer-facing solution architecture, technical consulting, requirements discovery, platform intake, or capability adoption for mission, engineering, analytic, infrastructure, or enterprise technology users.
  • Experience translating ambiguous customer needs into solution concepts, system-design options, access patterns, implementation instructions, backlog entries, roadmaps, or delivery plans for technical teams.
  • Experience working across on-premises, hybrid, cloud, CUI-capable, classified-adjacent, laboratory, or other controlled computing environments to help users identify appropriate platforms, workflows, and support models.
  • Experience integrating mission needs with software delivery, DevSecOps, data platforms, analytics, modeling and simulation, systems engineering, knowledge management, secure compute, or mission workflow platforms.
  • Experience supporting technical front-door, intake, demand-discovery, onboarding, consulting, office hours, training, community engagement, or feedback-loop mechanisms for internal customers.
  • Experience navigating organizational policies, information security requirements, access processes, platform constraints, and technical tradeoffs to help customers move from need identification to executable implementation.
  • Experience developing customer-facing guidance, engagement playbooks, communicator materials, reusable architecture patterns, service catalogs, or other resources that make technical capabilities easier to discover, understand, and use.
  • Active Secret Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Engage mission customers and internal stakeholders to understand objectives, constraints, workflows, data, security context, and success criteria; translate ambiguous needs into clear technical requirements and solution concepts.
  • Develop and document solution architectures that map mission needs to Mission Computing platforms, access patterns, secure compute environments, data flows, developer tooling, policies, and system-design options.
  • Produce actionable implementation guidance, descriptive backlog entries, architecture artifacts, decision records, and delivery roadmaps for platform, infrastructure, capability, and service teams.
  • Independently evaluate solution alternatives and technical tradeoffs using multiple information sources; identify risks, dependencies, gaps, and practical paths forward.
  • Support and improve front-door, demand-discovery, onboarding, consulting, and feedback processes; identify recurring customer patterns and share insights that improve services and adoption pathways.
  • Help mission teams discover and navigate approved capabilities, access processes, constraints, and support models; communicate complex concepts and build consensus among peers and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with platform teams, laboratories, Enterprise Technology, Information Security Services, software, data, and systems engineering communities, and technical leadership.
  • Lead defined technical tasks or small efforts and provide knowledge transfer and informal guidance as appropriate.
