About The Position

Orla Mining is seeking a Senior Mine Geologist – Drilling and Reconciliation – to join their team at the Musselwhite Mine. This role is crucial for driving operational efficiencies within the drilling department by managing contracts, optimizing drill patterns, and implementing KPIs to reduce costs while upholding safety standards. The position also involves detailed spatial and statistical reconciliation between resource models, grade control, and mill figures, identifying trends in model performance, and providing feedback to the mineral resource geologist. Requirements

  • 4-year Sc. degree in Geology or Earth Sciences.
  • 5+ years of underground production geology experience (Gold/Precious metals preferred).
  • Demonstrated experience completing monthly mine reconciliations.
  • Demonstrated experience with medium and long-range drill program creation, scheduling, budgeting, and management.
  • Geo designation from Ontario.
  • Proficiency in Deswik (MDM/CAD), AcQuire, and, Power BI.
  • Mastery of Microsoft Office Suite is required.
  • Ability to work in an underground environment when required, including lifting/carrying up to 75 lbs and reaching/climbing.
  • A team-oriented professional comfortable working in a diverse, multicultural environment.

Responsibilities

  • Strategically design and execute the resource delineation drilling program, owning the budget, schedule, and contractor relationships, with a focus on optimizing 'all-in' drilling costs through technical innovation and rigorous contract oversight.
  • Partner with the Mine Planning and Engineering teams to ensure drilling data is integrated into the 18-month rolling forecast and Life-of-Mine (LOM) designs.
  • Lead the mine’s monthly tonnage and grade reconciliation, prepare and investigate geological factors contributing to model-to-mill variance, and provide critical feedback to the Resource team to improve future estimation parameters.
  • Train other geologists to perform the month-end reconciliation.
  • Act as a technical mentor to the geology team, ensuring high standards of data integrity and providing leadership coverage for the department as required.
  • Lead by example in all safety protocols; identify geological hazards and communicate risks and opportunities clearly to the Mining, Engineering, Rock Mechanics and Drilling Operations teams.
  • Provide coverage for the Senior Mine Geologists when they are unavailable.
