As a Senior Middle Market Underwriting Manager, you will lead, develop, and coach a high-performing Middle Market underwriting team - fulfilling Central’s promise through strong agency partnerships and disciplined risk selection. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field and 6 years Middle Market Underwriting experience including 1 year of management experience
  • Or 8 years of Middle Market Underwriting experience including 1 year of management experience
  • Understanding of leadership skills, including coaching, team-building, and conflict resolution
  • Knowledge of Middle Market Underwriting coverages and policies in assigned states
  • Ability to professionally interact with our customers
  • Ability to investigate, gather facts and information, and analyze coverage
  • Understand the importance of capturing data
  • Possess an innovative and continuous improvement mindset
  • Possess a positive, professional, cooperative, and quality-conscious service attitude
  • Ability to work under pressure, deal with interpersonal conflict, and handle a heavy workload
  • Possesses analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Possesses verbal and written communication skills, including negotiation, presentation, and influence skills
  • Ability to understand Central Insurance’s policies and processes
  • Ability to travel to assigned agents including occasional overnight

Responsibilities

  • Directly manages all Middle Market Underwriting teams in assigned Region to achieve established objectives in accordance with established policies and procedures
  • Communicates strategy and priorities to team by setting expectations and holding team accountable
  • Responsible for the ongoing management of staff by attracting talent, setting clear direction, providing appropriate guidance, managing performance, recognizing contributions and developing capabilities
  • Apply territory and strategic knowledge to inform state line of business rate changes
  • Leads, develops, and mentors leaders and individuals on the team
  • Meet budget, make assigned agency visits, and assist with appointment process
  • Exercise highest level of authority in region dictating final stance on underwriting decisions
  • Responsible for department’s technical file handling, service standards, and project management
  • Achieve profitable results or define plan for region
  • Achieve written premium volume considering retention, RCOR, hit ratio, and new business or define plan for region
  • Assign appropriate projects to staff and monitor accountability for execution
  • Travel to assigned agents which will include occasional overnight
