About The Position

Health Atlast is seeking a seasoned Medical Billing Specialist with direct, hands-on experience billing PM&R-based services in an outpatient, multi-provider environment. This role requires a minimum of 3-5 years of recent medical billing experience in outpatient PM&R settings and proven billing experience in Physical Therapy, Chiropractic, Acupuncture, General Medicine, and Durable Medical Equipment (DME). The ideal candidate will have daily use of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS (timed codes included), demonstrated success with denial management, appeals, and AR follow-up, and strong payer experience with commercial, Medicare, and Medicare Advantage. This is not an entry-level billing or training role, and candidates with backgrounds limited to hospital billing, ambulance billing, pharmacy, psychiatry/behavioral health, sober living/substance abuse should not apply.

Requirements

• Minimum 3–5 years of recent medical billing experience in outpatient PM&R settings
• Proven billing experience in ALL or MOST of the following: Physical Therapy, Chiropractic, Acupuncture, General Medicine, Durable Medical Equipment (DME)
• Daily use of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS (timed codes included)
• Demonstrated success with denial management, appeals, and AR follow-up
• Strong payer experience (commercial, Medicare, Medicare Advantage)
• Experience with timed vs untimed codes and medical necessity
• Ability to work independently without constant oversight
• Takes ownership of outcomes, not just tasks

Responsibilities

• End-to-end claim submission for multi-disciplinary services
• Aggressive follow-up on unpaid, underpaid, or denied claims
• Root-cause analysis of denials with corrective action
• Insurance eligibility and benefit verification
• Accurate posting, reconciliation, and documentation
• Patient billing communication when required
• Maintain strict HIPAA and compliance standards
• Collaborate with clinical and front-office teams to resolve billing gaps
