About The Position

The Senior Media Producer is responsible for planning, capturing, editing, and managing compelling video and photography content for various platforms including social media, public meetings, advertising, and public access TV. This role involves close collaboration with communications and media team members, as well as stakeholders from the City of Gary's Office of the Mayor, department heads, and staff, to develop and execute communication strategies that align with the City's brand voice. The producer will ensure the capture of high-quality footage using professional equipment, lead the post-production process including editing, color correction, audio cleanup, visual effects, animations, and captions, and ensure all content meets industry standards and branding guidelines. Additionally, the role involves managing media equipment, programming public access television channels, developing Standard Operating Procedures, training other employees, and staying current with industry trends and best practices. The position requires availability for non-traditional work hours and occasional travel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Excellent communication skills: Strong verbal and written English communication skills to effectively communicate with clients, stakeholders, media, and vendors.
  • Technical skills: Proven experience using modern digital tools to create, edit, test, and publish digital content.
  • Creative Production skills: Proven experience in production (film, advertising, television, live theater, concerts, festivals, corporate meetings, events, expositions, conventions, or other entertainment).
  • Organizational skills: Highly organized and able to manage multiple projects at once.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, captures, edits, and manages compelling video and/or photography content for social media, public meetings, advertising, and public access TV.
  • Collaborates with communications and media team members to produce video, photos, graphics, and other visual assets as needed.
  • Collaborates with City of Gary Office of the Mayor, Department heads, and staff to plan, prototype, and execute strategies for communicating programs and services.
  • Helps stakeholders achieve their communication goals and alignment with the City of Gary brand voice.
  • Schedules recording sessions with the client and designated key stakeholders.
  • Ensures capture of high-quality audio, photo, and video footage using professional-grade equipment.
  • Leads editing/post-production process for photography/footage, including color correction, audio clean up, visual effects, animations, captions, and lower thirds.
  • Master Adobe Creative Cloud applications and other modern digital tools.
  • Checks for errors, glitches, and inconsistencies, ensures all files meet industry standards and channel specifications, understands and uses compression to achieve appropriate quality and file size.
  • Ensures consistency in visual branding across all videos and alignment with City of Gary brand standards.
  • Leads organization and archiving of all footage in all formats.
  • Leads the inventory and check-out process for all media equipment.
  • Leads programming of public access television channels (live and on demand) and manages relationships with outside studios and partners.
  • Builds and maintains Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) on how to use brand assets, trains other employees.
  • Benchmarks other brands, trends, and institutions.
  • Research, learn, and implement best practices for using modern digital tools.
  • Drives continuous improvement. Other recommendations for improving content quality, effectiveness, and performance.
  • Be available for some non-traditional work hours for various special events and meetings; some travel may be required.
