About The Position

Merrick & Company is seeking a Senior Mechanical Equipment Designer to join the Nuclear Services & Technology Business Unit in Albuquerque, NM or Los Alamos, NM. This role focuses on the design of custom equipment, including prototype/one-off custom equipment, gloveboxes, hot cells, specialty research equipment, and remotely operated mechanisms for handling radioactive and hazardous materials. This is a full-time, collaborative position where the senior designer will work with a small team to produce 3D models, drawings, and fabrication packages of custom equipment, with or without direction from the project engineer. Typical equipment includes containment systems (gloveboxes, hot cells, cleanrooms), material handling equipment, small scale process piping & equipment, furnace systems, metal working systems (mills, lathes, rolling machines), and pressure vessels. The pay range for this position is $40.25 - $52.00 per hour, with the final offer dependent on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Requirements

  • Minimum of eight (8) years’ experience in a related field
  • Familiarity with 3D systems (CATIA, SolidWorks or equal), 2D software (AutoCAD preferred) and Autodesk Revit
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Demonstrated capability in the design of custom equipment and/or containment systems, development of design documentation including fabrication drawings, equipment datasheets and design record documents
  • Ability to acquire a security clearance
  • U.S. Citizenship required for client projects

  • Experience in the DOE and DOD market segments
  • Expert proficiency with Creo (Pro/E) and Windchill

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of component, subassembly, and main assembly Creo (Pro/E) models
  • Creating detailed fabrication drawing packages
  • Evaluating and selecting purchased components
  • Creating detailed Bills of Materials
  • Completing equipment datasheets
  • Establishing model structure and drawing tree architecture for distinct deliverables
  • Establishing and maintaining file naming conventions and Windchill folders
  • Directing the activities of less experienced team members to produce final product
  • Providing checking support for deliverables
  • Conducting design activities following regimented quality assurance/quality control procedures
  • Holding team meetings and instructional presentations
  • Developing best practices in CAD usage
  • Mentoring, coaching, and conducting performance reviews for team members
