About The Position

Perform facility/system engineering duties as a Senior Mechanical Engineer at a nuclear or high-hazard facility within the MSTS Stockpile Experimentation & Operations Directorate. Positions are available at various locations in the Forward Areas of the Nevada National Security Site. The primary work location is the Nevada National Security Site, approximately 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada. The work schedule is 4/10s, Monday through Thursday, subject to change. The engineer maintains cognizance of assigned facility systems, provides engineering support for operations and maintenance, and supports line management safety responsibilities to ensure continued system readiness. The position includes serving as a subject matter expert for assigned systems, maintaining configuration-management documentation, supporting inspections and technical surveillance, developing designs and technical proposals, and coordinating work with engineers, technicians, vendors, and other disciplines. The role also provides direction and mentorship to junior and early-career engineers. Employment requires a pre-placement physical examination and drug screen, as well as a pre-employment drug test and background review. The selected applicant must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship and being at least 18 years old. A federal background investigation and subsequent reinvestigations are required; successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, potentially including a polygraph, may also be required. The position is subject to drug testing, including random testing.
