About The Position

AutoStore is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer – Integration & Applications to help partners and customers adopt its newest products, including robotic piece-picking solutions. The role works closely with Documentation, Product, Electrical/Controls, Compliance, system integrators, suppliers, and customers. It serves as a technical resource for robotic-cell guarding, safety compliance, and structural and mounting requirements, helping products reach the market safely and efficiently. The engineer develops variation guidelines and integration materials that can be used across AutoStore’s global partner base. The position combines customer-site work, technical advising, documentation, and product design focused on warehouse robotics. It includes supporting partner integrations, reviewing designs and safety concepts, creating CAD models and drawings, contributing field feedback to product development, and conducting core mechanical engineering activities. Travel is approximately 10%, primarily to customer sites.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of mechanical engineering experience in robotics, automation, material handling, or machine integration, ideally in a customer- or partner-facing role.
  • Familiarity with robotic work-cell safety technologies, including hard guarding and interlocked doors, light curtains, area scanners, safety mats, emergency stops, safety PLCs or relays, and software-based safety zones and speed/separation monitoring.
  • Mechanical design skills using 3D CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Creo, Inventor, NX, or similar, for robot-cell layouts, guarding, mounting structures, and engineering drawings.
  • Experience with conveyor systems and other traditional material-handling equipment.
  • Understanding of structural and mounting considerations, including load paths, anchoring, vibration, and mezzanine or platform interfaces.
  • Ability to work with multiple stakeholders across layers of indirection, including vendors, partners, and system integrators acting for end customers.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently with strong organization and follow-through.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write clear technical documentation.
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of robot-cell and machine-safeguarding standards, including EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC / Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230, ISO 10218-1/-2, ISO 13849-1, ANSI/A3 R15.06, ANSI B11.19, and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.212.
  • Ability to read PLC control logic, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams and discuss them with controls engineers.
  • Experience with a broader range of material-handling and fulfillment technologies, such as AMRs/AGVs, put walls, palletizing and depalletizing, pouch/pocket sorters, shuttle systems, and other material-handling systems.
  • Experience integrating robotic piece-picking or other AI- or vision-guided robotic systems.
  • Experience with CE marking, technical files, third-party safety audits, or risk assessments.
  • Hands-on commissioning or site-integration experience in warehouse or distribution-center environments.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical point of contact for partners and system integrators adapting AutoStore products, including robotic arms and robotic piece-picking solutions, to customer processes, layouts, and space constraints.
  • Assess structural and mounting needs for robotic equipment, including mezzanines, platforms subject to static and dynamic loads, existing building structures, and robot-cell guarding and safeguarding strategies.
  • Work with the Documentation team to define and publish allowable product variations, integration guidelines, installation requirements, and other partner-facing materials.
  • Create CAD layouts, 3D models, and engineering drawings of robot cells, guarding, and mounting solutions.
  • Review partner-proposed designs, layouts, and safety concepts and provide clear, actionable feedback.
  • Support integration with conveyors, legacy material-handling equipment, and controls interfaces, including reviewing PLC logic, safety I/O, and wiring diagrams.
  • Provide field learnings to Product and Engineering to improve product design, integration flexibility, and documentation.
  • Manage multiple partner projects and integration requests, prioritizing according to customer impact and timelines.
  • Support mechanical engineering work, including design, prototyping, verification testing, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement.
  • Travel approximately 10%, primarily to customer sites.
