About The Position

Lumafield is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to help design, prototype, and refine the next generation of its industrial CT scanning systems. The role spans motion systems, structures, system integration, and user-facing features, with a focus on developing reliable, manufacturable, and innovative solutions. The product is a complex hardware-software system, so success requires systems thinking, hands-on prototyping, and the ability to bring structure to ambiguous design problems. The engineer will collaborate with electrical, firmware, systems, and software engineers to build hardware that is both functional and delightful to use. This is a hands-on, in-person position based in Lumafield’s San Francisco, California office. The role includes technical leadership of mechanical design, delivery against quarter-scale goals, and involvement throughout the product lifecycle—from concept and design through engineering builds and transfer to mass manufacturing. The engineer will decompose business goals into actionable technical solutions, make informed tradeoffs to accelerate project timelines, coordinate cross-functional engineering goals, and mentor junior colleagues. Lumafield develops industrial CT scanning systems and AI-driven tools that provide visibility into products and quantitative insights for manufacturing. The company is headquartered in San Francisco and also has an office in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
