About The Position

JE Dunn's Advanced Facilities Group (AFG) is a high-performing team focused on cutting-edge work for innovative clients on large Industrial & Manufacturing, Data Center, and Semiconductor projects. As part of the Advanced Facilities team, you'll work on some of the most advanced construction projects across the country, growing your career alongside our diverse team of industry professionals. The M/E Engineer will complete increasingly complex mechanical, electrical and field construction activities. This position will be responsible for collecting and assembling data, developing estimates and generating systems and bid analysis. All activities will be performed in support of the strategy, vision and values of JE Dunn.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, architectural engineering or related field (Required).
  • In lieu of the above requirements, equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
  • Ability to perform work accurately and completely, and in a timely manner.
  • Communication skills, verbal and written (Intermediate).
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Intermediate).
  • Ability to read and understand plans, drawings and specifications.
  • Develops proficiency in basic JE Dunn construction M/E tools and software.
  • Knowledge of means and methods of construction management.
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team, internally and externally.
  • Valid and unrestricted driver's license required.

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years construction and/or engineering experience (Preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Provide cost estimating assistance to the preconstruction team, including input on conceptual and schematic designs to ensure cost estimates account for all process system components early in the design process.
  • Provide feedback on constructability and value engineering ideas as the design progresses.
  • Assist with bid analysis and selection of trade partners for process systems.
  • Review and provide input on process systems designs, including piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) and associated process system and piping plans, to ensure compliance with codes, standards, and project requirements.
  • Review process piping and system submittals to ensure compliance with construction documents.
  • Work with the operations team to ensure all required process system testing plans are accounted for and meet project requirements, and review test results to confirm compliance.
  • Inspect process systems throughout construction to ensure they are installed per code and project requirements.
  • Work with the commissioning team and trade partners to confirm all process systems are installed and operate correctly, and assist with troubleshooting components that aren't operating correctly to achieve final project completion.
  • Learn and actively participate in all aspects of the company’s safety and quality plans and culture by demonstrating commitment to an injury-free environment through individual actions and mentoring others.
  • Learn to develop budgetary M/E estimates based upon program and schematic design information using automated M/E estimating systems.
  • Assist in the review of mechanical and electrical options as part of the preconstruction process and complete systems analysis for select projects.
  • Learn to develop the mechanical and electrical scopes of work used to coordinate during the bid process.
  • Assist in developing sequencing requirements of various systems and providing solutions to meet schedule requirements.
  • Gain knowledge of design documents to identify potential quality problems and assist in developing constructability review reports.
  • Learn to perform job inspections to ensure specifications and expectations are met and work is completed in a quality and timely manner.
  • Learn and assist with the shop drawing/submittal process to comply with contract documents.
  • Assist with the commissioning process, including developing pre-functional checklists, functional testing procedures, and actual functional testing.
  • Lead, support, and promote a culture of diversity and inclusion within JE Dunn, understanding and ensuring positive implementation of JE Dunn’s policy of non-discrimination.
  • Complete increasingly complex mechanical, electrical, and field construction activities.
  • Develop budgetary M/E estimates based upon program and schematic design information.
  • Review mechanical and electrical options, complete systems analysis, recommend the best system for the project, and provide value engineering suggestions.
  • Coordinate the mechanical and electrical scopes of work during the bid process.
  • Develop sequencing requirements of various systems and provide solutions to meet schedule requirements, and provide scheduling input during projects.
  • Review design documents and identify potential quality problems, and help develop quality control programs.
  • Perform job inspections at various times in the project to ensure specifications and expectations are met and work is completed in a quality manner.
  • Develop pre-functional checklists and functional testing procedures, and verify contractor’s performance of functional tests.
  • Review and approve shop drawings prior to submitting to the design team.
  • Generate and issue the Commissioning Plan for approval to the appropriate parties.
  • Verify deficiencies are corrected and submit commissioning documentation to owners.
  • Provide mentoring to less experienced co-workers.
  • Create M/E tools and innovative solutions to continuously improve processes and work products.
