About The Position

GeoEngineers, Inc. is seeking Senior Mechanical Engineers for its trenchless engineering projects involving HDD (Horizontal Directional Drilling). These projects require complex mechanical tools and equipment for horizontal pipeline installation. The role involves analyzing project requirements, designing solutions, performing engineering calculations, managing project execution, and mentoring junior staff. This position is based at GeoEngineers’ Redmond, Washington headquarters, with the option to telecommute from anywhere in the United States. Domestic travel up to 20% is required, primarily to project sites in Texas and Louisiana.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or the foreign equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering field.
  • 6 years of experience as an Engineer, Project Manager, or a closely related engineering occupation.
  • 6 years performing engineering on projects involving HDD.
  • 6 years using MathCAD, ArcGIS, MODFLOW, FLAC, Civil 3D, HEC-RAS, Plaxis, or closely related engineering software.
  • A Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Completion of coursework (at either an undergraduate or graduate level) covering either Numerical Modeling or Finite Elements.
  • Applicants must be U.S. workers (includes U.S. citizens, permanent residents, foreign nationals granted temporary residence under one of the 1986 legalization programs, refugees, and asylees).

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical engineering activities and execute deliverables for trenchless engineering projects involving HDD.
  • Analyze proposed trenchless crossings to determine the mechanical equipment and construction methods needed.
  • Analyze pipe stresses with product pipe mechanical properties, drilling fluid pressures, formation limit pressures, and geometric constraints.
  • Analyze mechanical soil properties derived from laboratory testing for project planning.
  • Produce HDD plan/profile designs, engineering calculations, and equipment layouts.
  • Prepare technical proposals, project estimates, and bid documents.
  • Deliver daily reporting, budget tracking, and field engineering support on HDD projects.
  • Oversee mechanical engineering aspects of HDD projects from pre-construction through final closeout.
  • Develop and maintain baseline HDD project schedules, monitor daily progress, and coordinate with subcontractors and subconsultants.
  • Serve as a technical resource for clients and project staff on mechanical engineering considerations for HDD projects.
  • Manage HDD project budgets, tracked expenses, identified deviations, and implemented risk mitigation.
  • Maintain complete project documentation: submittals, drawings, change orders, and project closeout packages.
  • Review deliverables from staff and mid-level employees.
  • Mentor junior staff relative to technical skills, consulting best practices, mechanical equipment use and customization.
  • Ensure that HDD work performed is consistent with project plans and specifications and in accordance with safety guidelines.
  • Complete mechanical engineering analyses and calculations.
  • Develop complex conceptual models as needed for projects.
  • Use specialized engineering software related to mechanical engineering and HDD projects.
  • Investigate mechanical equipment failures on HDD projects and recommend remedies.
