About The Position

Avery Dennison is seeking a Senior Material Design & Simulation Engineer to join the global Advanced Materials Solutions (AMS) team within the Materials Group Division. You will support business growth and work to expand Avery Dennison’s focus in the area of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) related to multi-component synergistic materials design and polymer synthesis and processing. Specifically, you will work across our global businesses and technical teams to identify, develop, and deploy computational design and analysis to aid in solving rapidly evolving market-driven material needs. You will support multi-functional teams in the ideation of new product designs and commercialization chemistries, while collaborating directly with product development scientists, pilot facility teammates, operations associates, third-party contract manufacturers, and equipment vendors. A progressive problem solver is needed to leverage scientific fundamentals, robust experimentation, and computational theory. You will propose practical solutions for complex product and process development challenges through creative and agile technical leadership. You will leverage active engagement with multi-functional teams and drive to work independently toward business and organizational needs. We are looking for someone with a growth mentality to bring new and evolving ideas.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience using numerical simulations, mathematical modeling, and experimentation for application to product and process development.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, material science, polymer science, physics, or chemistry (advanced degree preferred).
  • Demonstrated understanding of fluid flow, pressure, temperature, mixing behavior, and chemical or molecular reaction environments inside vessels and related equipment.
  • Strong project management and well-developed leadership skills with comfort leading multiple projects simultaneously and communicating effectively at multiple levels within the organization.
  • Experience with laboratory safety, Process Safety Management (PSM), chemical hazards, and willingness to travel domestically and internationally 10-20% of the time.

Responsibilities

  • Application of mathematical modeling and numerical simulation to optimize product design, polymer processing, and synergistic material performance.
  • Partner directly with product development scientists, pilot facility teams, operations, third-party contract manufacturers, and equipment vendors to accelerate R&D and commercialization.
  • Provide technical feedback for business case development, assist with presentations to senior management, and complete feasibility assessments of complex problems.
  • Participate in new process technology development, including fluid flow design, specifying new equipment, and reactor design.
  • Collaborate with corporate intellectual property counsel regarding right to market, patent applications, and office actions, while utilizing strong problem-solving skills to anticipate potential obstacles.
