Senior Simulation, Test and Validation Engineer

Poseidon Aerospace•Alameda, CA

About The Position

Poseidon Aerospace is hiring a Senior Simulation, Test and Validation Engineer to own and develop its test and validation capability for autonomous cargo aircraft. The role defines the hardware-in-the-loop and simulation architecture, validator framework, and system test roadmap, including what is tested at the component level, on benches, on the aircraft, and in flight. The engineer will build much of the capability directly and lead the engineers and technicians who operate it. Test and validation work is intended to identify problems on the ground before they appear in flight. The position spans simulation infrastructure, hardware-in-the-loop testing, fault injection, qualification and life testing, environmental and durability campaigns, telemetry health monitoring, root-cause investigations, and presentation of test evidence at flight readiness reviews and for certification. The test capability is still being defined, and the role will establish how software releases and avionics hardware are evaluated before reaching the aircraft.

Requirements

  • B.S. in electrical, mechanical, aerospace, or computer engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 5 years testing complex electromechanical or embedded systems on aircraft, spacecraft, automotive, or comparable vehicles.
  • Experience architecting and bringing up a hardware-in-the-loop or system test capability from scratch.
  • Experience owning the test strategy for a hardware and software program through fielded operation or flight.
  • Experience planning and running environmental, durability, or reliability test campaigns that changed engineering decisions.
  • Strong software skills in Python and C or C++.
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting skills across embedded computers, actuation, power, and communications.
  • Experience leading test engineers or technicians.

Nice To Haves

  • Test experience on uncrewed aircraft or fly-by-wire aircraft.
  • Experience with real-time simulation platforms such as Speedgoat, dSPACE, or NI.
  • Experience with reliability methods including FMEA, Weibull analysis, and accelerated life testing.
  • Experience qualifying hardware to DO-160 or MIL-STD-810.
  • Experience building an iron bird or full-vehicle integration rig.
  • Experience developing real-time controls for safety-critical systems.
  • Experience with test evidence for certification or military airworthiness.

Responsibilities

  • Own the system test roadmap and strategy for testing at the component level, in hardware-in-the-loop, in ground testing, and in flight testing.
  • Architect and bring up hardware-in-the-loop benches incorporating flight computers, actuators, sensors, and power hardware in the loop.
  • Own simulation infrastructure, including software-in-the-loop, real-time simulation, and integration of models from GNC and flight sciences.
  • Define the validator framework and the criteria software or hardware releases must meet before being installed on the aircraft.
  • Design fault-injection and rapid fault-finding campaigns based on vehicle failure mode analysis.
  • Work with flight software teams to define test-mode features needed in flight code.
  • Convert mission profiles into qualification and life-test plans, including stress levels and test duration.
  • Develop methods to reproduce flight loads and environments on the ground and correlate test conditions with flight data.
  • Develop health monitoring and anomaly detection using vehicle telemetry for testing and aircraft use.
  • Lead environmental and durability test campaigns, including work with outside test labs.
  • Present test evidence at flight readiness reviews and support certification evidence.
  • Lead root-cause investigations into faults found during testing.
  • Lead and mentor test engineers and technicians.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and meaningful early-stage equity.
  • Relocation support if applicable.
  • Employee Health Benefit Plans.
  • 6% retirement matching.
  • Flexible PTO.
  • Free lunches, snacks, and a stocked fridge at the offices.
  • AI tools and subscriptions.
