About The Position

Liquid Development, a leading outsourcing art studio, is building a talent pool for exceptional Senior Material Artists for potential 2026 opportunities. This application is for joining a curated network of creative professionals for future projects. The role involves crafting high-quality, game-ready materials, collaborating with various art and engineering teams, and supporting quality control through continuous review and feedback. The Senior Material Artist will also assist in client communication, translate requirements into production guidelines, and lead department growth through training and mentoring. This includes designing technical documentation, style guides, and educational materials to standardize workflows.

Requirements

  • A strong portfolio with recent work demonstrating an artistic approach to material and surface creation across a variety of styles and real-world surface types (must submit to be considered).
  • 6+ years of experience in AAA video game production with at least one shipped title.
  • Strong grasp of composition, color theory, and the physical properties of real-world surfaces.
  • Proficiency in Substance Designer and Substance Painter.
  • Solid understanding of PBR workflows and material creation pipelines.
  • Technical proficiency in game art workflows including UV layout, texel density, and texture optimization.
  • Strong proactive collaboration and communication skills.
  • Experience in training and mentoring other artists.
  • English proficiency: B2 or higher required.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain a wide range of PBR materials and surface treatments that support and elevate the project's visual direction.
  • Build and manage Substance Designer graphs for both tileable materials, trims, and surface detail.
  • Collaborate with Environment Artists to ensure materials are integrated consistently and effectively across in-game environments.
  • Contribute to the development and documentation of material workflows, standards, and libraries.
  • Track and address material-related bugs during production and post-production.
  • Support quality control through the continuous review of technical and artistic work, providing constructive feedback.
  • Assist Leads Artists and Art Directors in communicating with clients and other strategic stakeholders.
  • Train and mentor other artists.
  • Proactively design the technical documentation, style guides, and educational materials necessary to standardize the organization's workflows.
