Senior Manufacturing Test Engineer, Electromechanical

Relativity Space•Long Beach, CA
•$109,000 - $149,500

About The Position

Relativity Space is hiring a Senior Manufacturing Test Engineer for the Stage Manufacturing team, which builds Terran R’s primary structures and develops the systems and processes used to manufacture the rocket. The role owns the development, validation, and refinement of test assets and processes across mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems, partnering with design and manufacturing teams to make production testing efficient, reliable, and scalable. The engineer drives technical execution of mechanisms and integrated assembly testing, including design integration, test equipment and tooling design or sourcing, test sequencing, manufacturing bill of materials development, work order creation, training, and specification authoring. The position also provides technical leadership in workcenter development and hands-on support to production teams, addressing test issues and feeding insights back into design for manufacturability, testability, and reparability. The role analyzes test data, identifies recurring discrepancies, leads cross-functional root-cause investigations, and implements corrective actions. It collaborates with design, production, supply chain, and quality teams to ensure manufacturing test processes are executed effectively and aligned with organizational objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, mechanical, electrical, manufacturing engineering, or a related discipline.
  • At least 5 years of experience building and testing hardware in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience authoring test procedures for building and validating mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic assemblies.
  • Experience partnering with design engineering, manufacturing, and production teams to execute test procedures and lead investigations of test failures and anomalies.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and managing large-scope test systems and process improvements with minimal oversight.
  • Expert knowledge of safety standards, common test hazards, and appropriate mitigations.
  • Hands-on experience in at least two of the following: electromechanical or pneumatic assembly; electrical or pneumatic functional checkouts; integrated testing; leak checking; sensor checkouts; high-voltage systems (320V+); high-pressure pneumatic systems; or instrumentation and sensor setup.

Nice To Haves

  • Proactive self-starter with a track record of defining and implementing testing processes, driving execution across diverse teams, and managing and delivering testing projects in fast-paced, production-driven environments.
  • Working knowledge of rocket subsystems, including structures, mechanisms, high-pressure gas systems, and avionics, and experience planning and conducting hazardous operations for aerospace hardware systems.
  • Knowledge of industry test standards such as SMC-S-016, MIL-STD-1540D, and MIL-STD-810G.
  • Experience with test automation, data acquisition and control systems, electrical test equipment such as oscilloscopes and multimeters, and pressure test equipment such as pressure regulators and flow meters.

Responsibilities

  • Own development, validation, and refinement of test assets and processes across mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems.
  • Collaborate with design and manufacturing partners to execute production testing campaigns efficiently, reliably, and at scale.
  • Lead technical execution of mechanisms and integrated assembly testing, including design integration, test equipment and tooling design or sourcing, test sequencing, mBOM development, work order creation, test training, and specification authoring.
  • Provide technical leadership in workcenter development, including guidance on assembly and test operations, safety compliance, tooling, and capital equipment.
  • Provide hands-on support to shop-floor and production personnel, promptly resolving test issues and providing upstream feedback for design for manufacturability, testability, and reparability.
  • Analyze test data to evaluate assembly performance and identify recurring discrepancies.
  • Lead cross-functional root-cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with design, production, supply chain, and quality teams to ensure effective manufacturing test execution and alignment with organizational objectives.
