About The Position

The Senior Manufacturing Test Engineer will own the development, validation, and refinement of test assets and processes for mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems. The role partners with design and manufacturing teams to ensure production testing campaigns are efficient, reliable, and scalable. The engineer will drive technical execution of mechanisms and integrated assembly testing, including design integration, test equipment and tooling design or sourcing, test sequencing, mBOM development, work order creation, test training, and specification authoring. The role also provides technical leadership in workcenter development, guiding assembly and test operations, safety compliance, tooling, and capital equipment in alignment with organizational objectives. This position provides hands-on support to shop-floor and production personnel, addresses test issues, and provides upstream feedback to improve design for manufacturability, testability, and reparability. It analyzes test data, evaluates assembly performance, identifies recurring discrepancies, and leads cross-functional root-cause analysis and corrective actions. Collaboration with design, production, supply chain, and quality teams is essential to seamless manufacturing test execution. The position is part of Relativity Space’s Stage Manufacturing team, which builds Terran R’s primary structures and develops the systems and processes needed to manufacture the rocket.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, mechanical, electrical, manufacturing engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience building and testing hardware in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience authoring test procedures to build and validate mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic assemblies.
  • Demonstrated experience partnering with design engineering, manufacturing, and production teams to execute test procedures and lead investigations of test failures and anomalies.
  • Proven experience designing, implementing, and managing large-scope test systems and process improvements with minimal oversight.
  • Expert knowledge of safety standards, common test hazards, and appropriate mitigations.
  • Hands-on experience in at least two of the following: electromechanical or pneumatic assembly; electrical or pneumatic functional checkouts; integrated testing; leak checking; sensor checkouts; high-voltage systems (320V+); high-pressure pneumatic systems; or instrumentation and sensor setup.

Nice To Haves

  • Proactive self-starter with a track record of defining and implementing testing processes, driving execution across diverse teams, and delivering testing projects in fast-paced, production-driven environments.
  • Working knowledge of rocket subsystems, including structures, mechanisms, high-pressure gas systems, and avionics.
  • Experience planning and conducting hazardous operations for aerospace hardware systems.
  • Knowledge of industry test standards such as SMC-S-016, MIL-STD-1540D, and MIL-STD-810G.
  • Experience with test automation, data acquisition and control systems, electrical test equipment such as oscilloscopes and multimeters, and pressure test equipment such as pressure regulators and flow meters.

Responsibilities

  • Own development, validation, and refinement of test assets and processes across mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems.
  • Collaborate with design and manufacturing partners to execute efficient, reliable, and scalable production testing campaigns.
  • Drive technical execution of mechanisms and integrated assembly testing, including design integration, test equipment and tooling design or sourcing, test sequencing, mBOM development, work order creation, test training, and specification authoring.
  • Provide technical leadership in workcenter development, guiding assembly and test operations, safety compliance, tooling, and capital equipment.
  • Provide hands-on support to shop-floor and production personnel and promptly address test issues.
  • Provide upstream feedback to improve design for manufacturability, testability, and reparability.
  • Analyze test data to evaluate assembly performance and identify recurring discrepancies.
  • Lead cross-functional root-cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with design, production, supply chain, and quality teams to ensure manufacturing test processes are executed seamlessly and align with organizational objectives.
