Senior Manufacturing Test Engineer

ŌURA•San Francisco, CA
•$172,550 - $203,000•Hybrid

About The Position

ŌURA is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Test Engineer to lead end-to-end test strategy, design, development, and deployment of production test solutions for its products. The role owns manufacturing test solutions across the product lifecycle, from early concept and prototypes through production ramp and mass production, and involves test architecture, software, contract manufacturer (CM) execution, data analytics, and continuous quality improvement. It requires hands-on engineering, systems thinking, and collaboration across internal teams and external manufacturing partners. The engineer will work with Hardware, Systems, Product, Firmware, Quality, Operations, Supply Chain, and Program teams, and serve as the primary technical interface to CMs and test equipment vendors. The role is hybrid, with 2–3 days per week in ŌURA’s San Francisco office, and requires willingness to travel up to 25% to domestic and international factory sites. Success includes completing design-for-testability (DFT) reviews, building relationships with CM and internal teams, auditing test systems, deploying production test stations or software, resolving test correlation or coverage gaps, and improving yield or false-call rates. Over time, the engineer is expected to become the recognized test engineering authority for assigned product lines and provide reusable frameworks or playbooks adopted by other programs.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, test engineering, or automation, including assembly, inspection, test station design, or factory deployment.
  • Hands-on experience developing manufacturing test software in Python, C, C++, or Rust.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience supporting development builds and mass production with global manufacturing partners.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% to domestic and international factory sites.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with wearables, consumer electronics, sensors, or embedded systems.
  • Strong background in test station qualification and correlation, including calibration, GR&R, Cp/Cpk, and DOE.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with hardware, firmware, systems, quality, and operations teams.
  • Familiarity with optical, RF, or semiconductor-based test methodologies.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a global, fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills across cultures and time zones.

Responsibilities

  • Drive early and ongoing Design for Testability (DFT) engagement with Hardware, Systems, and Product teams.
  • Define test requirements aligned with product specifications and quality targets, incorporating DFMEA/PFMEA, engineering specifications, and test coverage analysis.
  • Own test engineering across the lifecycle from proof of concept and prototype through EVT, DVT, PVT, production ramp, and mass production.
  • Architect, design, and deploy manufacturing test stations, equipment, fixtures, and processes for high-volume production.
  • Develop and maintain test software and automation using Python, TestStand, and LabVIEW, including instrument control, data acquisition, test sequencing, error handling, and factory data integration.
  • Build modular, scalable, and maintainable test frameworks that support manufacturing efficiency, repeatability, and long-term production needs.
  • Use GR&R, SPC, Cp/Cpk, correlation analysis, and DOE to validate test capability, improve processes, and ensure production readiness.
  • Lead failure analysis and root-cause investigations, resolving production issues such as yield excursions, test coverage gaps, and correlation discrepancies between internal labs and external factories.
  • Drive continuous improvement in product quality, manufacturing yield, and test cost.
  • Serve as the primary technical interface to CMs and test equipment vendors, leading test development, qualification, deployment, sustaining, and technical issue resolution.
  • Partner with Hardware, Firmware, Quality, Operations, Supply Chain, and Program teams; communicate test readiness, production risks, and technical recommendations to leadership and executive stakeholders.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and equity packages.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance, and mental health resources.
  • An ŌURA Ring and employee discounts for friends and family.
  • 20 days of paid time off, 13 paid holidays, and 8 days of flexible wellness time off.
  • Paid sick leave and parental leave.
