Senior Manufacturing Estimator

Perfecto Tool & Engineering Co•Anderson, IN

About The Position

Perfecto Tool and Engineering Co., Inc. is seeking an experienced manufacturing professional to turn customer requirements into accurate, timely, competitive, and commercially sound manufacturing estimates. This is not a desk-only quoting role: the estimator uses practical machining and tooling knowledge to evaluate opportunities, assess manufacturability and risk, establish manufacturing assumptions, and help determine what work Perfecto should pursue and how to win it. Working closely with Sales, Engineering, and Operations, the Senior Manufacturing Estimator develops practical manufacturing plans and estimates grounded in the company’s shop capabilities. The role may suit an experienced estimator or a manufacturing, applications, process, or engineering professional—or toolmaker—moving toward broader quoting and commercial responsibility. Formal estimating experience is preferred but not required; deep machining and tooling knowledge, judgment, commercial aptitude, and the ability to learn and own a disciplined estimating process are important. The position offers technical ownership and influence over the work Perfecto pursues, its manufacturing approach, accepted risks, and capability development. The role has access to manufacturing leadership and may provide a path toward broader commercial or operational leadership as the company grows. Perfecto is investing in its team, manufacturing environment, technology, processes, systems, and estimating methods.

Requirements

  • Substantial hands-on or technical experience in high-mix, low-volume precision machining, tooling, or comparable custom manufacturing.
  • Deep machining and tooling knowledge.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing methods, materials, setups, routings, labor drivers, outside processes, and manufacturing risk.
  • Ability to translate drawings and technical requirements into a practical manufacturing plan and cost estimate.
  • Commercial judgment that balances accuracy, competitiveness, risk, customer value, and profitability.
  • Clear communication with Sales, Engineering, Operations, customers, and suppliers.
  • Confidence asking questions and challenging weak assumptions.
  • Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines while maintaining attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

  • Formal estimating experience is preferred, but is not an absolute requirement.
  • An associate or bachelor’s degree in machining, engineering, manufacturing, or a related discipline is helpful but not required when equivalent manufacturing experience demonstrates the ability to succeed.
  • Experience as a senior manufacturing estimator, applications engineer, manufacturing engineer, process engineer, cost or quoting engineer, or experienced toolmaker with quoting responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Review customer drawings, specifications, models, and supporting information to establish scope and manufacturability.
  • Develop manufacturing approaches, routings, labor estimates, material requirements, outside-service needs, and other cost inputs.
  • Identify cost drivers, technical risks, missing information, and potential failure points before quoting.
  • Document assumptions, exclusions, risks, and open questions for commercial and manufacturing teams.
  • Partner with Sales on proposals and customer requirements.
  • Partner with Engineering and Operations to validate methods, capacity assumptions, lead times, and execution risk.
  • Support quote reviews and disciplined pursue, no-pursue, and pricing decisions.
  • Compare estimated assumptions with actual results and improve estimating tools and standard work.
  • Share manufacturing knowledge across the organization.
  • Deliver supportable quotes within agreed turnaround times and improve estimate quality using feedback from manufacturing results.
