Senior Manufacturing Engineer, Stage Machining

Relativity Space•Long Beach, CA
•$122,000 - $182,000

About The Position

The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will share ownership of machining operations for Terran R’s primary structures, including two large 3-axis mills, two large 5-axis mills, and a vertical turning lathe (VTL). The role helps introduce new products to these machines and improve current high-volume work. It works closely with design, manufacturing, and reliability engineers, internal production teams, and external vendors to advance manufacturing progress. The engineer creates work instructions, specifications, and best practices for high-fidelity processes; helps standardize manufacturing processes; and supports the establishment of new machining work centers through tooling and process definition. The role also supports the shop floor with live issue resolution, provides feedback to upstream teams, and gives Design for Manufacturing input to structures teams during development, prototyping, and flight builds.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, aeronautical, mechanical engineering, or another engineering discipline.
  • At least 4 years of progressive, related experience.
  • 3D and 2D design and drafting skills per ASME Y14.5M; NX is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with engineering and manufacturing groups to understand process constraints and provide design input for improved manufacturability.
  • Direct experience with CNC milling and turning operations across multiple materials.
  • Understanding of machine programming (G-code) and machine setup.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals in statics, mechanics of materials, process improvement and factory design, fastening and joining, and machining.

Nice To Haves

  • Extensive experience with CNC milling, turning, and drilling operations across multiple materials.
  • Aluminum experience and experience with large parts greater than 6 feet.
  • Extensive experience designing workholding for complicated machining operations.
  • Successful experience introducing a new aerospace hardware system into manufacturing, test, and production systems.
  • Experience managing projects in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities
