Manufacturing Engineer I, Stage Machining

Relativity Space•Long Beach, CA

About The Position

The Stage Manufacturing team builds Terran R’s primary structures and develops the systems and processes used to manufacture the rocket. The Manufacturing Engineer I will share ownership of operations on large 3-axis and 5-axis mills and a vertical turning lathe, support new product introduction and improve existing high-volume work. The role works closely with design, manufacturing, and reliability engineers, internal production teams, and external vendors to improve manufacturing processes and deliver Terran R hardware. The engineer will create work instructions, specifications, and best practices; help standardize processes; and support the establishment of new machining work centers through tooling and process definition. The position also supports the shop floor through real-time issue resolution, provides feedback to upstream teams, and contributes Design for Manufacturing feedback during development, prototype, and flight builds.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, aeronautical, mechanical engineering, or another engineering discipline.
  • At least 1 year of progressive, related experience; internship experience counts.
  • 3D and 2D design and drafting skills per ASME Y14.5M; NX preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with engineering and manufacturing groups to understand process constraints and provide manufacturability input.
  • Direct experience with CNC milling and turning operations across multiple materials.
  • Understanding of machine programming (G-code) and machine setup.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals in statics, mechanics of materials, process improvement and factory design, fastening and joining, and machining.

Nice To Haves
