Senior Manufacturing Engineer – Special Processes-Plating (Onsite)

RTX•Opa-locka, FL
•$86,800 - $165,200•Onsite

About The Position

The Senior Manufacturing Engineer serves as a key technical resource supporting electroplating and chemical processing operations within a landing gear Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility. The role focuses on maintaining process stability, troubleshooting complex plating challenges, qualifying manufacturing processes, and improving safety, quality, and operational performance. The engineer works closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, Quality, Laboratory, tooling engineering, and EH&S teams to ensure plating processes are technically sound, compliant with aerospace requirements, and consistently executed. The position requires a strong understanding of electroplating principles, chemistry, and process controls, along with the ability to translate technical requirements into clear manufacturing instructions and practical shop-floor solutions. Regular engagement with manufacturing operations and a hands-on approach to technical problem-solving are required.

Requirements

  • A degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM), or a related technical field and at least 5 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field and at least 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in industrial electroplating, electrochemical processing, or closely related chemical manufacturing operations.
  • Experience with plating chemistry, electrochemical principles, process parameters, and manufacturing process controls.
  • Experience investigating technical problems, analyzing process performance, and developing corrective actions.
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications, communicate technical concepts, and develop clear process documentation.
  • Must be a U.S. Person.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with hard chrome, sulfamate nickel, cadmium, or similar industrial electroplating processes.
  • Aerospace manufacturing or MRO experience, particularly in NADCAP-accredited special process operations.
  • Experience with plating bath chemistry analysis, contamination control, process optimization, and defect investigation.
  • Experience qualifying or requalifying electroplating or chemical processing operations.
  • Familiarity with plating tooling, anode arrangements, current distribution, and masking techniques.
  • Working knowledge of aerospace material and process specifications, including AMS, BAC, or equivalent customer requirements.
  • Experience providing technical training and hands-on support to manufacturing personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical engineering support for aerospace electroplating and chemical processing operations, including hard chrome, sulfamate nickel, cadmium plating, and chemical stripping.
  • Troubleshoot plating defects, process instability, chemistry-related issues, and equipment performance; identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Analyze plating bath chemistry, operating parameters, and process performance to identify improvements and maintain consistent process capability.
  • Develop, review, and maintain manufacturing work instructions, process documentation, and technical procedures.
  • Lead process qualification and requalification activities, including qualification plans, testing coordination, results evaluation, and supporting documentation.
  • Support qualification and production implementation of new or modified plating and chemical processes with technical specialists and cross-functional teams.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, aerospace specifications, and customer requirements to establish and maintain compliant manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborate with tooling engineering to evaluate plating fixtures, anode configurations, masking, and other tooling requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to shop-floor personnel on plating processes, operating parameters, process controls, and troubleshooting.
  • Support NADCAP accreditation activities, internal audits, and corrective action investigations.
  • Partner with Operations, Quality, Laboratory, and EH&S teams to investigate nonconformances, evaluate process risks, and implement sustainable improvements.
  • Drive continuous improvement in plating quality, process reliability, first-pass yield, rework reduction, and operational efficiency.
  • Perform additional manufacturing engineering responsibilities as required to support site objectives.
