About The Position

Medtronic is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to join their team at their Warsaw, Indiana manufacturing site. This role is crucial for optimizing production, ensuring quality, and advancing the company's mission to improve lives. The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will lead initiatives to enhance manufacturing efficiency, implement Lean principles, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve complex challenges. The position involves working with cutting-edge technologies and processes in the production of life-saving medical devices. The role requires a minimum of 5 days a week onsite to foster professional growth and cross-functional collaboration.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.
• OR Master's degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience.
• OR PhD with 0 years relevant experience.
• Possess unrestricted U.S. work authorization at the time of hire and for the duration of employment (for roles below Principal level).

Nice To Haves

• Experience using risk management tools such as PFMEAs or other control plans.
• Experience researching, developing, and implementing tools, processes, machines, and equipment to support manufacturing operations.
• 7+ years of technical experience in a machining environment, including experience with machine platforms and subsequent processes such as finishing, packaging, laser etching, assembly, blasting, or clean room operations.
• Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) Certified Manufacturing Engineer (CMfgE) certification.
• Completion of formal Project Management training.
• Completion of formal Lean Manufacturing training.

Responsibilities

• Development of machining, metal finishing, and assembly methods for assigned product lines.
• Partner with Project Engineers to determine make vs. buy decisions.
• Participate in print reviews and partner with Quality Engineering to determine gages and measurement procedures.
• Create conceptual designs for fixtures, gages, and special cutting tools.
• Conduct design reviews with Tooling Team personnel, Purchasing, and outside suppliers.
• Determine appropriate machine platforms and identify capital equipment requirements.
• Represent Warsaw in new product launch and product transfer activities.
• Complete change control and Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) activities in accordance with Medtronic's CAPA system.
• Lead or participate in Lean Sigma projects and process improvement initiatives.
• Review product drawings for manufacturability and initiate drawing changes with Product Design Engineering to improve quality and reduce costs.
• Provide project updates to management while maintaining project plans, documentation, action items, and risk management activities related to cost, quality, and schedule.
• Partner with Quality on risk management activities and participate in design reviews, including DFMEA and pFMEA.
• Provide technical support to Purchasing and suppliers by interpreting product drawings, developing manufacturing drawings, conducting supplier reviews, and resolving technical production issues.
• Develop manufacturing plans for new products and coordinate Manufacturing Process Planning entry into the MRP system.
• Execute and support validation and qualification studies, determining strategy with cross-functional teams and ensuring early stakeholder involvement.
• Partner with CNC Programmers on tooling selection and program changes; troubleshoot manufacturing and CNC programming issues on the production floor.
• Develop manufacturing setup and process sheets for machining, assembly, and finishing operations.
• Review engineering drawing changes and implement required updates to tooling, fixtures, processes, CNC programs, bills of material, routings, and related documentation through Manufacturing Engineering change control processes.
• Resolve technical production issues across machining, metal finishing, and assembly operations in partnership with Operations and Quality personnel.
• Recommend plant layout improvements and equipment acquisitions.
• Collaborate with equipment suppliers on specifications, quotations, and implementation schedules.
• Initiate and implement improvements to manufacturing methods and processes to enhance quality, delivery, and cost performance.
• Train shop employees and support onboarding and development of new team members.
• Support product launch and core business initiatives using project management tools to coordinate resources, track progress, communicate status, resolve issues, and ensure successful transition from concept through production.
• Travel as required for business needs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
