Senior Manufacturing Engineer - Second Shift

About The Position

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented, innovative, and results-driven Manufacturing Engineer to design, implement, and optimize manufacturing processes to improve productivity, efficiency, and quality across the production line. The role is the magnet owner, with overall accountability for the shift, and works closely with design engineers, production staff, quality assurance, and supply chain teams. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 2:00–10:30 PM, with a 10% differential added to base pay. The role requires occasional travel or work on required nights, weekends, or on-call. The position involves safety hazards that may include heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead, high voltage, and cryogenics. Candidates must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and perform activities such as typing, standing, stooping, and sitting for extended periods. This is a full-time position with a salary range of $134,000–$205,000 per year, plus equity and benefits. Actual salary depends on level, location, qualifications, and experience. Employment is contingent on compliance with U.S. Export Control Laws concerning controlled or protected technologies or information.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
7+ years of experience in a manufacturing or production engineering role.
Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and quality systems.
Proficiency in CAD software such as NX, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD, and manufacturing ERP systems.
Ability to balance autonomy with disciplined escalation.
Leadership through hands-on engagement.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Ability to type, stand, stoop, and sit for extended periods.

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA).

Responsibilities

Make real-time decisions within established guardrails and escalate when conditions fall outside defined limits.
Analyze and improve manufacturing processes to reduce costs, increase efficiency, and ensure product quality.
Develop and maintain process documentation, including work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and process flow diagrams.
Collaborate with product design and development teams to ensure manufacturability of new products.
Implement Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies to enhance production performance.
Lead the design and procurement of tools, fixtures, and equipment required for efficient production.
Troubleshoot equipment and process issues and implement corrective actions.
Conduct time and motion studies to determine optimal production methods and labor utilization.
Support continuous improvement initiatives and implement best practices across the facility.
Ensure compliance with safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards.
Evaluate new technologies and automation solutions to enhance manufacturing capabilities.
Serve as the magnet owner and hold overall accountability for the shift.
