About The Position

The Senior Manufacturing / Controls Engineer provides electrical and controls engineering support for multiple manufacturing areas within the Medtronic North Haven Manufacturing facility. This role leads and supports initiatives focused on cost savings, manufacturing process improvements, assembly equipment retrofits, and the procurement and implementation of new manufacturing equipment. The engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure manufacturing equipment meets Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) requirements and consistently produces high-quality assemblies that meet product specifications. Responsibilities include developing and maintaining engineering standards and best practices, supporting validation activities through the development and execution of defining documents and IQ protocols, and ensuring all required equipment documentation is created and maintained, including operating instructions, electrical schematics, equipment specifications, parameter settings, and software backups. Requirements

  • Requires a Baccalaureate degree and minimum of 4 years of relevant experience OR Master's degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience OR PhD with 0 years relevant experience.
  • Possess unrestricted U.S. work authorization at the time of hire and for the duration of employment (for roles below Principal level).

  • Experience with Rockwell HMI systems and related development tools.
  • Experience programming and integrating 6‑axis articulated robots and SCARA robots.
  • Experience with machine vision systems (Cognex or Adept preferred).
  • Experience with servo and stepper motion control systems, including amplifiers, controllers, and feedback devices.
  • Familiarity with machine risk assessment methodologies and electrical safety circuit design.
  • Knowledge of linear brushless motors/controllers and AC inverters is a plus.
  • Familiarity with data acquisition systems, IoT trends in manufacturing, and industrial network architectures is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and provide equipment specifications to vendors for both automated and manual manufacturing equipment.
  • Ensure equipment designs comply with NFPA, OSHA, and all applicable safety standards.
  • Review supplier quotations, lead equipment design reviews, and collaborate with project teams to deliver custom assembly equipment solutions.
  • Act as a key contributor in DFMEA, PFMEA, Machine Risk Assessments, and CTQ processes to ensure specifications are clearly defined and documented.
  • Troubleshoot and support equipment utilizing various control platforms including PLCs, CNC systems, PCs, vision systems, and robotics.
  • Ensure production requirements are met through proper equipment specification, supplier selection, and equipment qualification.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of new automation technologies and process improvements.
  • Coordinate and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams across operations, engineering, and external suppliers.
  • Travel approximately 25% to manufacturing sites and supplier locations (domestic and international).
  • Provide technical support to maintenance teams as required.
  • Address manufacturing issues and provide technical problem-solving support as needed in a fast-paced production environment.
