About The Position

The Community Preservation Corporation (CPC) is a nationally recognized leader in affordable housing finance, providing capital to underserved housing markets throughout New York State since 1974. As the largest CDFI solely committed to investing in multifamily housing, CPC has invested over $15 billion to create and preserve more than 230,000 units of quality housing. CPC has a robust construction lending platform, a mortgage bank, and equity and impact investment platforms focused on expanding affordable housing, closing the racial wealth gap, and investing in the green economy. This role is for a Senior Managing Director responsible for leading CPC Capital’s permanent lending platform and advancing capital strategy initiatives. The position oversees all aspects of permanent mortgage lending, including loan screening, underwriting, and originations, and plays a critical leadership role in designing and executing balance sheet lending strategies, managing institutional capital, and driving innovative financing solutions. The Senior Managing Director will collaborate with the Head of CPC Capital and other senior leaders to align production, risk management, and capital deployment with organizational priorities, fostering partnerships with public agencies, private capital providers, and community stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Minimum 15+ years of experience in commercial real estate finance, with a focus on multifamily and affordable housing.
  • Deep expertise in permanent mortgage lending, including agency (Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac), FHA/HUD, and balance sheet executions.
  • Proven track record of originating and closing complex financing transactions.
  • Experience managing institutional capital, including pension funds or similar investment vehicles.
  • Strong credit and underwriting acumen with demonstrated risk management capability.
  • Established relationships within the affordable housing and multifamily finance ecosystem.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing high-performing teams and driving business growth.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee all permanent mortgage lending activities, including pipeline management, loan screening, underwriting, approval, and closing.
  • Ensure consistent credit quality, disciplined risk management, and adherence to regulatory and investor requirements.
  • Establish production goals and drive origination strategies aligned with mission and financial performance targets.
  • Source and originate permanent loan opportunities with mission-aligned sponsors, developers, and institutional partners.
  • Maintain and expand relationships with affordable housing developers, owners, intermediaries, and public sector partners.
  • Position CPC Capital as a preferred capital provider through responsiveness, creativity, and reliability.
  • Design, implement, and manage balance sheet lending products to complement agency and third-party executions.
  • Develop innovative capital solutions that address market gaps in affordable and workforce housing finance.
  • Optimize capital allocation across products to balance mission impact, risk, and return.
  • Oversee the management and deployment of pension fund capital and other institutional investment vehicles.
  • Structure investment strategies that align fiduciary requirements with CPC Capital’s mission objectives.
  • Serve as a key relationship manager to institutional investors, ensuring transparency, performance, and alignment.
  • Partner with credit and risk teams to maintain rigorous underwriting standards and portfolio performance.
  • Monitor portfolio trends and proactively manage risk exposure across the permanent loan book.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, regulatory standards, and investor guidelines.
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team across loan screening, originations, and underwriting.
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and mission-driven culture.
  • Build organizational capacity to scale permanent lending activities.
  • Serve as a key member of the CPC Capital leadership team, contributing to overall business strategy and growth.
  • Collaborate and partner with across construction lending, equity investments and corporate finance teams to deliver integrated capital solutions.
  • Represent CPC Capital externally with industry groups, policymakers, and partners.
