Requirements

  • Deep knowledge of content and instruction at the primary school and/or secondary level, particularly with early literacy instructional materials and resources, with at least three years teaching experience, preferably in high-need schools or with high-need populations, and a proven track record of raising student achievement.
  • Experience designing and delivering strong professional development for adult learners and creating systems to support ongoing learning and development.
  • Experience coaching teachers and leaders (minimum three years of experience in this area).
  • Strong familiarity and expertise with the College and Career-Ready standards, or relevant state standards.
  • Experience as a practitioner in a school system that has adopted high quality instructional materials and/or a deep conceptual understanding of the instructional shifts in early literacy.
  • Experience using high-quality curricular materials and knowledge of how the curriculum supports strong, rigorous instruction.
  • Valid work authorization that does not require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with charter schools across New York City to support, coach, and develop teachers and leaders to shift and improve their instructional practice around the implementation of high-quality instructional materials in literacy classrooms.
  • Support school leaders to deliver on their instructional leadership priorities and improve instruction for all students, by supporting them with key aspects of their roles.
  • Design and Lead compelling and practical professional learning on research-based practices in K-8th grade literacy instruction.
  • Conduct classroom visits to assess the quality of instruction and support coaches and leaders in identifying trends within and across schools.
  • Model effective observation and feedback practices.
  • Facilitate the implementation of strong instructional materials aligned to the shifts and demands of the relevant state standards.
  • Set up and maintain data systems and support teachers and leaders to engage in ongoing reflection and use of data to drive improvements.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with academic departments and school-based staff.
  • Track progress towards contract goals and make strategic decisions regarding client management and support.
  • Motivate and influence clients to consistently strengthen their mindsets and incorporate new practices into their academic strategy, including authentic community engagement.
  • Contribute to the creation of high-quality, data-driven reports demonstrating the effect of the team’s approaches towards quality of instruction.
  • Design tools and resources in real-time to respond to client needs, in support of academic or instructional goals.
  • Engage with and communicate progress to a variety of district school and community stakeholders, including high-level leaders.
  • Develop tools and resources in real time to respond to client need.
  • Develop and cultivate client relationships that foster trust through authentic engagement and ensuring client satisfaction with our work.
  • Design sessions and facilitate professional learning for district leaders, school leaders, teachers, and other stakeholders.
