This position is responsible to provide leadership and direction for the Air Canada Tech Ops Tooling operations. The position holder is responsible to ensure availability and compliance of the Air Canada tooling for Line Maintenance Operation across the network globally. The position holder is also responsible for the management of the Aircraft Ground Equipment shop operation for the repair and maintenance of tooling. This role is responsible to oversee 4 main areas: Tooling configuration: specifications, requirements, selection, provisioning and system setup. Tooling control: processes for tooling tracking and control as it pertains to aircraft maintenance. Tooling Maintenance program: Aircraft Ground Equipment shop, repair cycle & inventory strategy, planning for calibration and availability, vendor management processes and strategies. Safety and Reliability: tooling failures, modifications, equivalency and associated regulatory and safety programs.

Requirements

  • University Degree in related field or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of related experience in airline maintenance operations and tooling management
  • Experience leading a team in a unionized environment.
  • Experience in the aviation and transportation industry is mandatory.
  • Must possess excellent and demonstrated project management skills and experience in delivering large projects.
  • Leadership and management of a large organization is required.
  • Good conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Recognized ability to work under pressure, handle stressful situations and maintain flexibility.
  • Demonstrate punctuality and dependability to support overall team success in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible to develop, implement and operate the tooling strategies to support Air Canada TechOps operations.
  • Oversee the availability and compliance of tooling to all Line Maintenance locations across the Air Canada Tech Op’s system.
  • Develop tooling allotment strategy by reviewing flight schedules from Crew Network / Tech Ops Planning and aligning it to fleet operations across the various bases to ensure tools are allocated and reconciled accordingly.
  • Lead and implement comprehensive strategies for loaning/borrowing tools for cost savings and provide direction and oversight of Buyer and Vendor Management for all Tooling purchases and repairs.
  • Lead and manage the team operating the Aircraft Ground Equipment shops
  • Manage changes to fleet mix, maintenance location and operations as it pertains to tooling
  • Oversee and manage an annual budget of $10M OPEX and $5M CAPEX per year, ensuring cost-effective operations while maintaining high service levels.
  • Ensure the availability of resources while maximizing operational efficiency and minimizing costs.
  • Own and maintain governance over tooling-related policies, standards, and procedures, ensuring alignment with regulatory, safety, and audit requirements.
  • Accountable for internal and external safety, quality and compliance to the tooling program including, audit findings and actions throughout the system as they pertain to tooling.
  • Develop and implement sustainable risk mitigation plans for safety audit findings.
  • Overall accountability to ensure tooling is maintained according to relevant standards and regulations
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and regulatory bodies, working collaborating with other Air Canada Tech Ops functions to support the availability, compliance, and serviceability of tooling across the Air Canada network.
  • Act as the subject matter expert for Tech Ops Tooling, providing strategic direction and decision-making to align tooling activities with business objectives and contribute to overall goals.
  • Collaborate with Engineering in relation to designing new tools for ACM Line Maintenance, issuing Tool Change Bulletins (TCBs), and OEM modifications of tools.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to a diverse team fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence.
  • Identify, develop, and implement policies and processes relating to tooling to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve service delivery.
  • Develop and monitor tooling performance metrics, leading root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives to proactively mitigate operational and safety risks.
  • Establish, revise and monitor service level goals in support of Air Canada TechOps.
  • Have ultimate accountability for and demonstrate actual performance against goals on a regular basis on behalf of the Corporation.
