The Tooling Operations Coordinator is responsible for managing tooling inventory, ordering, and usage while also serving as a technical partner to Manufacturing and Programming on tooling selection and application. This role is accountable for tooling cost control, inventory accuracy, distributor engagement, and staying current on advances in cutting tool technology to support performance, consistency, and cost optimization. All work is performed in compliance with the Quality Management System, applicable regulations, and customer requirements.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • 2–4 years of experience in manufacturing, machining support, tool crib, inventory control, or supply support roles
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, with working knowledge of Excel for tracking, reporting, and analysis
  • Strong understanding of cutting tools and their application in CNC machining environments
  • Ability to communicate effectively with distributors, programmers, and manufacturing teams
  • Experience with tool usage tracking, inventory control, and cost awareness

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a regulated or precision manufacturing environment
  • Experience with tool crib systems, inventory software, or ERP/MRP systems
  • Exposure to CNC machining environments and tooling terminology
  • Certification, or relevant coursework in Manufacturing, Operations, Supply Chain, or a related field

Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain tooling inventory to ensure required tools, inserts, holders, and consumables are available to support production while minimizing excess spend, obsolescence, and downtime.
  • Monitor inventory levels, reorder points, and usage patterns using approved systems and reports.
  • Prepare, place, and track tooling purchase orders with approved suppliers, coordinating deliveries, backorders, substitutions, and lead times to avoid production disruptions.
  • Receive, stock, label, and organize tooling in designated tool room or point‑of‑use locations in accordance with established standards.
  • Track tooling issue, return, and consumption activity through the tool crib or inventory management system, ensuring accuracy, traceability, and accountability.
  • Analyze tooling usage data to identify trends, abnormal consumption, tool life issues, and opportunities for standardization or cost reduction.
  • Actively engage with approved tooling distributors and manufacturer representatives, meeting regularly to stay informed on new tooling, coatings, grades, and technologies.
  • Evaluate new tooling options and bring forward recommendations that are appropriate for Triangle’s part mix, materials, and production environment.
  • Partner with CNC Programming, Manufacturing, and Engineering to support tooling selection by application, advising on appropriate tools, alternates, and standard tooling solutions within agreed practices.
  • Provide input to programmers on tooling performance, availability, and cost considerations to support efficient and repeatable processes.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to tooling performance, standardization, inventory accuracy, and cost control.
  • Assist with tooling estimates and standard tool lists for new or repeat jobs as directed.
  • Prepare and maintain tooling‑related documentation and records in compliance with the Quality Management System and audit requirements.
  • Maintain 6S, visual organization, and housekeeping standards within the tool room and associated storage areas.
  • Understand and comply with company policies, safety guidelines, quality system procedures, and housekeeping standards.
