Senior Manager Software Engineering - Cloud Engineering (Remote)

The Home DepotGEORGIA - VIRTUAL - GA01, GA
$140,000 - $240,000Remote

About The Position

As the Senior Manager of Cloud Engineering, you will lead the teams that build and operate the platforms, tooling, and cost discipline that let enable every product team at The Home Depot to build, ship, and run in the cloud efficiently and safely. You will own a connected set of responsibilities: the paved-path platform foundations, services, and guardrails that teams build on; the deployment and delivery tooling that makes releases fast, safe, and low-friction; and the cost management and optimization practices that keep cloud spend efficient and sustainable as the business scales. You will champion a paved-path approach that makes the right way the easy way, reducing friction so teams can develop, deploy, and support their applications with less toil. You will partner with our most strategic cloud and tooling vendors to ensure the right capabilities are readily available across the Enterprise, and you will bring an experiment-driven, metrics-informed mindset — including modern AI and agentic workflows — to how the platform evolves. You will partner closely with Platform Reliability Engineering to balance reliability, developer experience, and cost, and you will grow the next generation of cloud engineering talent, leading teams focused on building these capabilities and sharing them across the organization.

Requirements

  • Must be eighteen years of age or older.
  • Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
  • Mastery of an object oriented programming language (preferably Java)
  • Must be legally permitted to work in the United States
  • 6 years of relevant work experience, including leading engineering teams
  • Mastery of cloud platform engineering on major providers (e.g., GCP, Azure) — compute, networking, storage, IAM, and core platform services
  • Mastery of cloud cost management and optimization (FinOps) — driving spend visibility, optimization, and sustainable unit economics at scale
  • Mastery of modern deployment tooling and progressive delivery — CI/CD pipelines, small-batch releases, and fast, safe deployments (e.g., Spinnaker, TFE)
  • Mastery of designing paved-path platforms with an excellent developer experience — intuitive APIs, self-service workflows, and clear, consistent GUIs, CLIs, and documentation
  • Proficient in designing platform interaction surfaces (APIs, SDKs, portals) that minimize friction, steps, and support burden for the teams consuming them
  • Proficient in using customer feedback, adoption signals, and usage data to continuously improve the experience of building and deploying on the platform
  • Proficient in defining and tracking platform adoption and efficiency metrics across a large engineering population — from leading indicators (e.g., paved-path adoption, pipeline coverage) to outcome metrics (e.g., cost per transaction, deployment frequency)
  • Proficient in technical communication — strategy documents, architecture reviews, and executive-level updates
  • Capable of understanding complex technical and organizational systems quickly
  • Experience with delivery and developer-productivity frameworks (e.g., DORA, CSAT)
  • Experience applying AI and agentic workflows to accelerate platform and deployment engineering
  • Experience managing and growing individual contributors and managers in a professional setting
  • Experience managing strategic vendor relationships (cloud providers, tooling platforms), including negotiations
  • Experience translating high-level strategy into tactical execution
  • Proficiency in supporting a 24x7 retail operation
  • The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.
