About The Position

The Load Balancer team in Oracle's Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) networking organization is seeking a Senior Software Development Manager to join our fast growing team! The OCI Load Balancer team is at the center of many of OCI’s most critical business goals. You will lead a team responsible for rapidly growing the Load Balancer platform as OCI grows while maintaining the stability that is required of a tier 0 service. You will work with our largest internal and external customers to build features necessary for their growth. You will balance the challenges of growth, stability, availability, and feature expansion in order to prioritize OCI's networking business growth. We need a hands-on senior manager who can thrive in ambiguity, make data-driven decisions, and think critically about how to solve complex problems. We seek someone who can inspire others and explain the “why” behind every project and every priority call. The role will involve setting the strategic vision and near-term roadmap items, executing on delivery in an efficient manner, cultivating a culture of high standards for quality and delivery, and growing the team. The successful hire will have a passion for automation, solving complex problems, and working in a high-impact, fast-paced environment. Load Balancer, being a Tier0 service, needs a strong operational leader.

Requirements

  • 10 years engineering experience, including at least 2 years as a people manager or in a technical leadership role
  • A strong, hands-on background in cloud technologies, infrastructure automation, distributed systems, and software development.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is required.
  • Demonstrated drive to create and lead world-class engineering teams and the mindset to foster excellence.

Nice To Haves

  • Networking experience is preferred.
  • Advanced degrees or relevant certifications in project/program management preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee software architecture, development, debugging, and enhancement activities in line with design specifications and business requirements.
  • Advocate for and drive improvements within existing architectures, guiding your team in delivering resilient, automated, and scalable solutions.
  • Set clear, measurable goals; monitor progress and hold teams accountable for achieving key deliverables at high quality.
  • Manage a team of engineers, guiding their professional development, managing talent, and driving a culture of continuous learning and high standards.
  • Define and execute the technology roadmap and operational strategies for service stability, developer efficiency and AI initiatives, ensuring alignment with OCI’s priorities.
  • Build and maintain operational support structure for your services, including on-call rotations.
  • Lead operational incidents to resolution as necessary.
  • Deliver post-mortem analysis for operational incidents and drive necessary improvements in process and services to improve availability as a result.
  • Articulate forward-looking plans, strategies, and project outcomes to leadership and stakeholders, ensuring widespread understanding, support, and alignment.
  • Responsible for hiring plans and attainment of hiring goals.
  • Lead by example in identifying and nurturing talent, conducting career development conversations, and promoting a culture of continuous learning and advancement.

  • Flexible Vacation is provided to all eligible employees assigned to a salaried (non-overtime eligible) position. Accrued Vacation is provided to all other employees eligible for vacation benefits. For employees working at least 35 hours per week, the vacation accrual rate is 13 days annually for the first three years of employment and 18 days annually for subsequent years of employment. Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
