Senior Manager, Safety & Facilities
About The Position
Technical Safety Services (TSS) is hiring a Senior Manager, Safety & Facilities to lead safety programs and facilities functions across multiple locations. This hands-on, senior-level individual contributor role has no direct reports and works closely with operations leaders, field teams, HR, and outside service providers. The position combines program development, data analysis, training, site visits, and day-to-day problem-solving, and reports to the Sourcing and Logistics Director. Travel to company facilities and field locations is required as needed. The role is responsible for developing and maintaining regulatory-compliant safety programs, investigating incidents, delivering training, monitoring safety performance, and coordinating regulatory inspections. It also oversees facilities operations, maintenance, vendors, budgets, space planning, physical security, and emergency preparedness. The position additionally maintains customer and vendor qualification records and provides safety documentation and information requested by customers. TSS is a nationwide laboratory service provider supporting life sciences, healthcare, and research organizations. It tests, certifies, and services cleanrooms, fume hoods, biological safety cabinets, and other controlled-environment equipment.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational or Industrial Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field; equivalent experience will be considered.
- Seven or more years of progressive safety or environmental, health, and safety experience.
- Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and applicable multi-state regulatory requirements.
- Experience managing workers’ compensation claims and safety training programs.
- Strong incident-investigation, auditing, and safety program-development skills.
- Ability to influence cross-functional partners and communicate clearly with employees, leaders, customers, and service providers.
- Strong organization, attention to detail, and ability to manage competing priorities across multiple locations.
- Practical problem-solving approach and ability to use data to guide decisions.
- Ability to travel to company facilities and field locations as needed.
Nice To Haves
- Experience in a multi-site, field-services, or industrial environment.
- Facilities or multi-site operations management experience.
- Experience supporting a distributed or mobile field workforce.
- Professional certification such as CSP, ASP, CIH, CHMM, or CFM.
- Familiarity with EHS management software and safety data platforms.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain safety programs, policies, and procedures meeting OSHA, EPA, and applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
- Establish policies and schedules for routine inspections and site safety audits.
- Lead incident investigations, identify root causes, drive corrective actions, and maintain OSHA 300 and 300A records.
- Develop and deliver new-hire safety orientation, ongoing training, and required recertification programs.
- Partner with HR on workers’ compensation claims and related safety improvements.
- Track and report safety performance, including EMR, TRIR, DART, and near misses, and use findings to improve hazard controls and reduce incidents.
- Serve as the primary contact during regulatory inspections and coordinate documentation and responses.
- Administer applicable hazardous-materials, waste, personal protective equipment, and lockout/tagout programs.
- Oversee operation, maintenance, and upkeep of company facilities, including buildings, grounds, and equipment.
- Manage vendors and contractors providing janitorial, HVAC, security, landscaping, and repair services.
- Develop preventive maintenance schedules and manage facilities budgets and operating costs.
- Evaluate space utilization and opportunities to consolidate or right-size facilities and leases.
- Ensure facilities meet applicable accessibility, fire, building-code, and safety requirements.
- Coordinate renovations, facility moves, and space-planning projects.
- Maintain physical security, access control, and emergency preparedness and response plans.
- Keep customer and third-party vendor-qualification portals accurate and current.
- Respond to customer requests for safety information, including questionnaires and training and injury data.
- Maintain training records, injury and insurance information, and safety-equipment testing documentation.
- Travel to company facilities and field locations as needed.
