The role combines deep retail operations expertise with strong analytical and financial acumen. The Sr. Manager will identify operational opportunities, business risks, and performance gaps; determine root causes; and develop solutions that drive measurable results. Success requires the ability to translate data and strategy into consistent field execution across a complex, high-volume footwear business.

Requirements

  • Strong operational experience in high-volume athletic footwear, apparel, sporting goods, or another complex specialty retail environment.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with demonstrated experience using retail KPIs, financial reporting, dashboards, and large data sets to identify risks and drive measurable improvement.
  • Advanced understanding of enterprise and store-level P&L management, labor productivity, inventory performance, operating expenses, and return on investment.
  • Advanced Excel proficiency and experience with business intelligence, workforce management, inventory, and retail reporting tools.
  • Proven ability to manage large, geographically dispersed field organizations, establish accountability, influence cross-functional partners, and translate strategy into consistent execution.
  • Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional teams by setting clear expectations, driving accountability, removing barriers, and delivering operational excellence in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
  • Ability to travel approximately 30 – 45% for store visits, market reviews, and field execution.
  • 5+ years of progressive leadership in multi-unit retail operations, with experience supporting a large, multi-region store network.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Finance, Analytics, or a related field preferred; MBA a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a structured communication and accountability process that aligns 750+ stores with company priorities.
  • Establish performance benchmarks, monitor results, identify gaps, and hold field leaders accountable for measurable improvement in sales, labor, profitability, and operational execution.
  • Analyze sales, traffic, conversion, SOT, labor, inventory, expenses, and profitability across stores, districts, and regions.
  • Identify operational inefficiencies, business risks, and root causes, then develop clear solutions and actions that deliver measurable results.
  • Own operational and labor budgets and develop data-driven scheduling and productivity strategies.
  • Evaluate labor deployment against traffic, conversion, customer experience, sales, and store-level profitability.
  • Establish clear, scalable operating standards across customer service, stockrooms, transfers, markdowns, cash controls, audits, and general store execution.
  • Simplify processes, eliminate inefficiencies, and reduce unnecessary store workload.
  • Lead the field implementation of retail technology and operational initiatives, including RFID, workforce analytics, BOPIS, and Ship-from-Store.
  • Establish objectives, KPIs, baselines, and success criteria for pilots and new programs.
  • Measure operational and financial impact, ensuring initiatives improve productivity, inventory accuracy, customer experience, and profitability, while providing data-driven recommendations to scale, refine, or discontinue programs.

Benefits

  • The pay range for this role is $145,000-$170,000/yr USD.
