About The Position

As a Senior Manager, Originations Risk Management you will be leading the development of credit risk strategies, policies, and procedures for new account originations for Unsecured Lending products (Credit Cards, Unsecured Lines of Credit, Overdraft Protection, etc.) to optimize risk-adjusted returns for Canadian Banking within Global Risk Management.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or higher in business, statistics, economics, mathematics, management science, or analytics.
A minimum of 5 years with a financial institution in the risk/portfolio management field, with rigorous logical thinking and solid understanding of credit principles.
Prior experience in unsecured lending (credit cards, lines of credit).
Strong hands-on data analytic and logical thinking ability, with a track record of data-driven decision making.
Ability to translate data into actionable insights using strong data storytelling skills.
Working knowledge of at least one of the data analytics tools, such as SAS, SQL, R, Python and reporting tools such as Tableau, Power BI.
At least 5 years of people management experience with strong project management and leadership skills to prioritize, manage and implement a variety of competing initiatives, on a concurrent or staggered basis.
Excellent communication and written skills complemented with solid deductive reasoning, sound judgement and data storytelling.
Strong executive presence and the ability to adjust communication style based on the audience.
Knowledge of credit scoring, risk assessment, portfolio management, and behaviour scoring.

Responsibilities

Enhance and implement credit risk strategies and policies by leveraging champion/challenger capabilities and incorporate third-party data including non-traditional data, and procedures for new account originations using analytics, empirical decision models, and competitive analysis.
Provide portfolio analytics, monitoring, and reporting: Monitor application credit quality, approval rates, total bank exposure, early delinquency, exceptions, origination trends, and emerging portfolio risks; conduct independent analysis using advanced data querying and manipulation tools; translate findings into actionable insights through effective data storytelling; and produce monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc reporting to support leadership oversight and early-warning risk monitoring.
Examine customer relationships across lending and non-lending products to strengthen applicant segmentation and risk differentiation.
Demonstrate initiative to automate and simplify adjudication rules, thresholds, and monitoring processes using technical, analytical skills and industry best practices.
Participate in Credit Cards and Unsecured Lending initiatives related to front-book growth, new products, channels, or customer journeys and act as a key liaison across Risk, Product, Originations, Fraud, Technology, and Operations teams throughout the credit lifecycle.
Review and challenge business cases, risk proposals, and requirements documents to ensure alignment with risk appetite and sound credit principles.
Act as a change agent by proactively identifying opportunities to enhance origination policies, controls, and processes to improve performance and customer experience.
Support investigations and solutioning for OSFI findings and/or Internal Audit items in an appropriate and acceptable timeframe.
Liaise with the Fraud Department and Security and Investigations as required.
Leverage data from Scotiabank Economics, Risk Analytics, Credit bureau insights, and the Canadian Bankers Association to assess competitor performance, employment trends, and potential headwinds.
Influence stakeholders across multiple levels of the organization and vendors, including senior leadership, through clear, data-driven insights and recommendations.
Communicate complex analytical concepts in a concise, executive-ready manner. Utilize excellent data storytelling skills to present senior leadership with impactful analysis and advisory.
