About The Position

Teledyne Scientific & Imaging (TS&I) is the home of Teledyne’s Central Research Laboratory and a leading provider of infrared sensors, with over 60 years of technology evolution and customers like NASA, ESA, and the U.S. Department of Defense. The Sr. Manager, Optical Products will join this mission-focused team, where technical excellence, collaboration, and agility are valued. This role involves providing technical and execution leadership for the VCSEL production and engineering organization.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a related discipline with 10 years of demonstrated expertise in VCSELs, optoelectronics, or semiconductor devices
  • Proven experience leading multidisciplinary engineering and production teams, including hiring, performance management, mentoring, and fostering strong team values and behaviors
  • Strong program and business leadership skills, including budget development, project execution, schedule and cost control, and data-driven decision making
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment in technical, operational, and administrative matters to achieve objectives in creative and effective ways
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with customers, senior leadership, and cross-functional stakeholders
  • Advanced computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ERP systems for program tracking and reporting
  • High standards of ethics and business conduct, with a strong commitment to safety, compliance, and responsible research and engineering practices
  • US citizenship due to access restrictions

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and execution leadership for the VCSEL production and engineering organization, directing day-to-day operations and long-term capability development
  • Engage directly with customers to understand market and application needs; develop, own, and execute the VCSEL product roadmap, including securing investment for new product introductions
  • Lead prototype development, productization, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance device performance, increase manufacturing output, and reduce cost
  • Define and execute VCSEL strategy to drive program wins and deliver sustained, long-term business value
  • Maintain and expand externally funded program support, including leading the development and submission of high-quality technical proposals
  • Evaluate technical progress to ensure rigorous application of scientific and engineering principles and alignment with product and customer requirements
  • Prepare and present technical, programmatic, and business reports, including recommendations for corrective actions and next steps
