About The Position

Schwab’s Enterprise and Operational Risk Management team, part of Corporate Risk Management, strengthens enterprise and operational risk practices through independent oversight, consultation, and effective challenge. The Operational Risk Liaison Team provides risk intelligence to support informed decisions and a strong risk environment.

The Senior Manager serves as the primary Operational Risk Liaison for the Finance and Legal enterprises and Capital Stress Testing (CST) activities. The role provides enterprise-wide risk oversight, consultation, and effective challenge across first- and second-line teams contributing to CST, working closely with Financial Risk Management, Model Risk Oversight, and the Treasury Capital Stress Testing team. The position identifies exposures, assesses the CST control environment, and drives meaningful risk outcomes.

Success in the role calls for attention to detail, stakeholder management, communication, collaboration, and adaptability. The Senior Manager influences without direct ownership, presents well-supported assessments to leadership, and builds alignment across Finance, Treasury, Financial Risk Management, Model Risk Oversight, and other partners while navigating evolving risks, competing priorities, and seasonal demands.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree.
• 7+ years of experience in risk management, governance, or a similar role.
• Experience in risk management and conducting risk assessments within banking, brokerage, or financial services.
• Analytical thinking and decision-making skills demonstrated through evaluating complex processes, controls, issues, and risk information.
• Communication skills, including the ability to present assessments and recommendations to leadership.
• Stakeholder management and collaboration skills, including the ability to build effective partnerships and influence outcomes without direct ownership.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment, solve complex problems, and bring projects and reporting to conclusion.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective relationships with business unit partners and risk management teams.
• Adaptability and attention to detail when navigating emerging risks, ambiguity, competing priorities, and seasonal workload demands.
• Executive presence and strategic thinking when providing effective challenge and communicating risk-related recommendations.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with Capital Stress Testing, CCAR/DFAST-like processes, Treasury, or Finance.
• Familiarity with Risk and Control Self-Assessments, issues management, control testing, or model and process governance.

Responsibilities

• Provide independent oversight, consultation, and effective challenge of business-led initiatives, including evaluating new instruments used in Finance to ensure operational risk considerations are identified, assessed, and addressed through implementation.
• Challenge Capital Stress Testing process execution, governance documentation, controls, and cross-functional handoffs to identify and address operational risk exposures.
• Assess CST-related issues, remediation activities, and emerging risk themes across Finance, Treasury, Financial Risk Management, Model Risk Oversight, and other contributing business teams.
• Support and mentor business partners to help ensure adherence to Operational Risk framework elements and policy requirements.
• Oversee and challenge the design, implementation, and maintenance of business processes and controls to manage relevant risks.
• Oversee the identification and remediation of operational risk issues in accordance with framework requirements.
• Analyze operational risk data to support risk identification, assessment, monitoring, and reporting.
• Monitor and assess emerging risks, industry trends, and operational risk exposures related to Capital Stress Testing.
