Learn more at nrdc.org POSITION SUMMARY The E2 Senior Manager of Media and Strategic Communications plays a critical part in advancing E2’s mission by making the business and economic case for clean energy and climate action — amplifying the voices of business leaders, entrepreneurs, and other trusted messengers across media platforms. This position works closely with E2 staff, consultants, partners, and members to develop and execute nonpartisan communications strategies that elevate E2’s research, message and messengers to advance our policy priorities at both the federal and state levels.This is a limited term 2 year position. The position you are applying for is part of the bargaining unit represented by The Washington Baltimore News Guild (WBNG / The Newsguild-CWA Local 32035).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or a related field.
  • Minimum 4-7 years of experience in journalism, advocacy, business and/or policy communications and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills across all formats and audiences. Background in journalism strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability and demeanor to collaborate effectively and build relationships with team members, partners and external stakeholders.
  • Deep proficiency in social media strategy and tactics that appeal to both Republicans and Democrats.
  • Experience developing and managing strategic, multi-faceted communications campaigns.
  • Experience leading collaborative communications efforts with internal and external partner groups.
  • Experience working with businesses and businesspeople.
  • Collaborative spirit, strong interpersonal and personal communication skills and desire to work with teammates to make change.
  • Knowledge and understanding of clean energy and climate policy and how government works.
  • Passion for the environment, climate action, business and E2’s mission.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build consensus among diverse stakeholders and lead cross-functional teams.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Proven experience managing priorities and working effectively across multiple internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to travel to as needed, approximately 10-15% annually.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely and collaboratively with E2 staff to develop and execute strategic, nonpartisan communications campaigns to support E2’s federal and state policy priorities.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to advance advocacy goals through press, opinion pieces, reports, social media, and other communications products.
  • Collaborate across internal teams and with external partners to ensure consistent, high‑impact messaging.
  • Serve as E2’s primary media contact.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with business, political, and environmental reporters at national and regional outlets.
  • Pitch stories, respond to media inquiries, prepare briefing materials, and support rapid‑response communications as needed.
  • Work closely with E2 business members and other compelling messengers (e.g., farmers, military veterans, industry leaders) to develop and amplify stories that demonstrate the economic benefits of clean energy and climate policies across all forms of media.
  • Identify and develop new communication opportunities and platforms to strategically advance E2’s message.
  • Support message development and media preparation for staff and members.
  • Manage and expand E2’s social media presence, ensuring content appeals to audiences across the political spectrum.
  • Oversee internal communications, including newsletters, and member communications.
  • Support communications for major E2 events, report releases and programs.
  • Develop, manage and strengthen relationships with communications staff at partner organizations.
  • Lead collaborative communications initiatives with aligned organizations and stakeholders.
