About The Position

This role is responsible for drafting marketing strategy and ensuring its alignment with Walmart's overall business strategy and brand objectives. The position involves socializing the marketing strategy with other marketing leaders and associates, and representing marketing plans in cross-functional venues. The Senior Manager will review competitor brands and customer insight data to identify opportunities for differentiating Walmart in the marketplace. They will also make recommendations regarding Walmart's brand position, promotional planning, and media strategy. A key part of the role is developing creative briefs for straightforward initiatives and campaigns, and ensuring creative output aligns with brand strategy. The position also involves managing marketing initiative implementation, including media plans, circulars, internal and supplier campaigns, and promotional events. Budget management for campaigns and AOP drafting are also key responsibilities. Collaboration with various cross-functional teams is essential for successful execution. Additionally, the role includes people development, coaching team members, and fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, or related field and 3 years' experience in marketing or related field OR 7 years' experience in marketing or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Drafts marketing strategy and ensures alignment with Walmart's overall business strategy and brand objectives.
  • Socializes marketing strategy with other marketing leaders and associates.
  • Represents marketing plans in cross-functional venues (e.g., Holiday Action Team).
  • Reviews competitor brands and customer insight data (demographics, purchasing history, transaction records, surveys, social media data, site visit logs, product reviews, responses to advertisements, multicultural opportunities) and shares innovative ways to differentiate Walmart in the marketplace (e.g., new channels or approaches).
  • Reviews targeted item criteria and suggests modifications based on customer insights, competitor, and other new information.
  • Makes recommendations regarding Walmart's brand position and ongoing maintenance plan, media, internal and supplier campaigns, and promotions.
  • Reviews and updates the promotional planning calendar.
  • Develops creative briefs for straightforward initiatives/campaigns (e.g., back-to-school) and socializes with directors.
  • Drafts direction and key messages to promote desired behaviors (e.g., driving customers to additional channels).
  • Reviews target audience, objectives, budget, and timeline for all initiatives within a straightforward campaign.
  • Reviews and edits creative considerations, media materials, tone.
  • Chooses the most effective media options to communicate key messages in the brief to the target audience for a straightforward campaign.
  • Reviews performance metrics to understand the effectiveness of marketing channels (e.g., how much revenue was generated via Pinterest compared with direct mail).
  • Aligns with AOP budget allocation to the various channels and suggests improvements based on performance and customer analysis.
  • Provides input into media investment strategy and mix of working and non-working spend targets.
  • Develops relationships with key contacts at selected media channels.
  • Manages most or all aspects of a straightforward initiative or campaign, including media plan, circular, internal and supplier campaigns, promotional events.
  • Implements steps to enhance sales and net profits for the entire length of the customer relationship.
  • Drives growth in new customer acquisition, customer retention, and conversion rates.
  • Reviews and approves communications (e.g., email, mobile, mail, and social media) to ensure a consistent customer experience and improved campaign effectiveness.
  • Provides creative guidance to internal/external agencies and ensures agency output is in line with overall brand strategy and objectives and delivers on initiative strategies.
  • Suggests improvements to the plan to enhance ROI/campaign effectiveness based on review of performance data.
  • Provides input into the brand creation and development strategy and leads the development of enduring brand messages for a straightforward campaign or product.
  • Drafts portions of the annual operating plan (AOP) by analyzing data trends and competitor strategic dynamics.
  • Manages the execution of the AOP and ensures successful implementation of multiple components.
  • Understands operational success and recommends operating requirements for implementation teams.
  • Manages budgets for all aspects of a straightforward campaign and resolves budget concerns.
  • Develops and assesses performance against financial KPIs, implementing adjustments to maximize Walmart's marketing investments before, during, and post campaign or initiative.
  • Suggests budget tradeoffs based on knowledge of other marketing/branding priorities/initiatives.
  • Reconciles irregularities within the budget and enforces financial controls.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams (e.g., Advertising, Digital Marketing, eCommerce, Category Marketing, Creative Operations, Category Management, Site Merchandising, Customer Service, Supply Chain, Analytics) to execute on straightforward campaigns and ensure consistent brand messages across all channels.
  • Identifies, collects, and shares critical information (e.g., item info, merchant intent) with cross-functional teams and key stakeholders to ensure exceptional execution.
  • Coaches team members and provides feedback to enhance skills, knowledge, and work performance.
  • Conducts performance and career development conversations if applicable.
  • Maintains team motivation and engagement.
  • Mentors less experienced associates and managers.
  • Drives the execution of multiple business plans and projects by identifying customer and operational needs, developing and communicating business plans and priorities, removing barriers and obstacles that impact performance, providing resources, identifying performance standards, measuring progress and adjusting performance accordingly, developing contingency plans, and demonstrating adaptability and supporting continuous learning.
  • Provides supervision and development opportunities for associates by selecting and training, mentoring, assigning duties, building a team-based work environment, establishing performance expectations, and conducting regular performance evaluations, providing recognition and rewards, coaching for success and improvement, and promoting a belonging mindset in the workplace.
