About The Position

Our site in Toronto is seeking a Senior Manager, Manufacturing Engineering to join our team. The person will be responsible for leading and managing the manufacturing engineering function within a chemical plant environment. This role oversees technical manufacturing operations, continuous improvement initiatives, and site technical operations while ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective production operations. The position owns the successful technical manufacturing of specialty chemicals and ensures alignment between engineering, operations, and business objectives. The Senior Manager will lead a team of manufacturing engineers as well as a facilities engineer to provide technical and strategic direction, ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or graduate degree in Chemical Engineering or related field
  • 8–12+ years of experience in chemical manufacturing or process engineering
  • 4+ years of leadership experience managing engineering teams
  • Experience with new product introduction, process scale-up, and manufacturing integration
  • Significant experience in process safety management.
  • Familiarity with DCS/SCADA systems.
  • Proven track record managing complex, cross-functional projects
  • Strong leadership and team development skills
  • Deep technical expertise in chemical processes and manufacturing operations
  • Project management and program leadership capabilities
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Financial acumen and budget management experience
  • Continuous improvement mindset (Lean, Six Sigma principles preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of manufacturing engineers to build a high-performing organization
  • Manage facilities engineering and the maintenance team
  • Manage hiring, training, performance evaluations, and career development of engineering and facilities staff
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Oversee process safety and process optimization for chemical manufacturing processes
  • Identify and implement improvements in cost, quality, safety, and delivery performance
  • Support plant operations through troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and implementation of best practices
  • Establish and monitor KPIs related to safety, quality, yield, and operational efficiency
  • Support the transition of new products from development into full-scale manufacturing
  • Oversee multiple engineering and capital projects, ensuring delivery on schedule, scope, and budget
  • Develop and execute project plans, including resource allocation and risk management
  • Monitor financial performance of projects and manage expenditures against budget
  • Drive continuous improvement of engineering and project management processes
  • Act as a key interface between engineering, manufacturing, procurement, quality, R&D, and commercial teams
  • Provide technical leadership and strategic input to business unit initiatives
  • Collaborate with customers and stakeholders to solve technical challenges and enhance product performance
  • Develop and execute engineering strategies aligned with business goals
  • Implement best practices in process design, DOE, and process optimization
  • Drive innovation in manufacturing technologies and methods
  • Support capital planning, equipment investments, and facility improvements
