About The Position

The Senior Manager, Individual Giving will initiate and support a range of activities for City Year’s development staff, including general database administrative support, serving as point person for reporting and data management needs, distribution of the City Year ‘event kits’ and related technology components, and coordination of pledge reminders and gift submissions. This role involves supporting systems for donor segmentation, pipeline development, donor communications, and donor stewardship. The position will also support the Executive Director and Managing Director of Development & Communications in managing a portfolio of donors collectively giving $750k - $1M annually, and implementing strategies to identify, cultivate, and solicit new individual donors capable of giving $10,000+ annually. Building and maintaining a robust pipeline of prospects, designing tailored solicitation plans, and ensuring exceptional stewardship for current donors are key aspects of this role. The Senior Manager will also engage and develop the Investment Community and Engagement Boards, and execute strategies to engage potential individual donors attending City Year New York service events and industry-specific events. Collaboration with the Development team to plan and execute donor events, representing City Year at external events, and collaborating effectively with teammates and the national Development community are also expected. Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in individual giving, major gifts, or related fundraising roles, or comparable relationship‑based, revenue‑generating experience.
  • Authorized documentation to work in the United States of America.
  • Criminal background history clearance to work with school-age children, depending on the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Proven track record of securing individual gifts at $5-10,000+ levels.
  • Experience developing and executing prospecting, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including persuasive writing and presentations tailored to external partners (e.g., donors, funders, or senior stakeholders).
  • Proficiency in CRM systems (Salesforce preferred) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • City Year/AmeriCorps experience a plus.
  • Transferable relationship‑building experience.

Responsibilities

  • Support systems for donor segmentation, pipeline development, donor communications, and donor stewardship.
  • Support the Executive Director and Managing Director of Development & Communications to manage a portfolio of donors collectively giving $750k - $1M annually.
  • Support the implementation of City Year New York’s strategy to identify, cultivate, and solicit new individual donors with the capacity to give $10,000+ annually as part of our signature individual giving program, the Red Jacket Society.
  • Build and maintain a robust pipeline of prospects through research, networking, and referrals from board members and stakeholders.
  • Design tailored solicitation plans, proposals, and engagement strategies to secure multi-year commitments.
  • Ensure exceptional stewardship for current donors and Red Jacket Society members, including personalized communication, appreciation, and engagement opportunities.
  • Implement a tiered donor engagement strategy, with the goal of ensuring an excellent experience at every giving level and moving supporters up the giving ladder over time.
  • Support the Managing Director of Development & Communications and the Executive Director to manage their portfolios of high-potential donors, enabling multiple engagements per donor annually, including meetings, calls, emails, and donor events.
  • Maintain detailed and timely call reports, contact notes, and giving histories in Salesforce.
  • Monitor portfolio performance and giving trends to inform strategy and adjust plans for revenue growth.
  • Own activities to engage and develop our Investment Community and Engagement Boards, including acquiring new members to grow each Board by approximately 50%.
  • Execute a newly developed strategy to engage potential individual donors who attend City Year New York service events and events targeting potential donors in specific industries and interests.
  • Partner with the Development team to plan and execute donor cultivation and stewardship events aligned with annual engagement goals.
  • Represent City Year at external and partner events to cultivate new relationships and strengthen existing ones.
  • Collaborates effectively with teammates and national Development community to achieve shared goals and foster an inclusive environment.
  • Role models a growth mindset and commitment to City Year’s culture and values as a leader within a youth-serving organization.
  • Performs additional responsibilities as assigned by the direct supervisor to advance City Year’s mission.
