About The Position

The Senior Manager, Global Policy Office (GPO), Global Risk Management (GRM) is accountable for supporting the governance, oversight, maintenance, and effective lifecycle management of GRM policy documents. The role contributes to the consistent application of enterprise policy standards across GRM by providing subject-matter guidance, coordination, and challenge throughout the policy lifecycle, ensuring alignment with the GRM Policy on Governance Documents, internal risk management frameworks, and applicable regulatory expectations. The Senior Manager, Global Policy is responsible for managing a team supporting policy publication across GRM, enabling the GRM Policy modernization work from a project-based view, providing training to GRM Policy owners, serving as liaison to subsidiaries to monitor implementation of Phase 2 recommendations, developing and maintaining GPO site and assisting international banking policy rationalization.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years of in Financial industry
  • Experience in risk management, regulatory compliance, or audit within a large financial institution.
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate well across all levels of an organization
  • Solid ability to quickly review, assimilate, prioritize, and escalate issues to appropriate stakeholders
  • Strong understanding of OSFI regulatory expectations, including independent review, challenge, and effective issue remediation.
  • Strong ability to manage multiple projects at the same time and meet timely deadlines
  • Ability to synthesize complex findings into executive‑ready insights and recommendations.
  • Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent teamwork, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring alignment of policy content with PoGD prior to publication, and enabling faster, consistent more controlled policy updates.
  • Provide hands-on support and constructive challenge to Policy Owners during drafting and revision of GRM Policy Documents to promote clarity, consistency, and implementability.
  • Review policy drafts for alignment with enterprise governance standards, risk taxonomy, and applicable regulatory and supervisory expectations, escalating material issues to senior GPO leadership as required.
  • Assist in tracking late reviews, policy exceptions, addendums, and standalone documents, and support escalation and reporting in accordance with GRM’s Policy of Governance Documents
  • Promote a strong risk culture by reinforcing accountability, transparency, and consistency in policy governance practices across GRM
  • Identify opportunities to improve policy lifecycle processes, tooling, and guidance, supporting continuous enhancement of the Global Policy Office operating model
  • Understand the applicable regulatory requirements to ensure policies are adequately updated to identify potential control gaps and non-compliance with regulatory requirements, best practices, and internal policies and procedures.
  • Contributes to developing the team of professionals, leading by example.
  • Develop and maintain strong internal and external partner relationships to positive influence idea sharing, collaboration and efficiency.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Where applicable, the incumbent will manage and develop staff, providing coaching, performance feedback, and guidance consistent with Scotiabank’s people leadership expectations.
  • Support staff by ensuring team and work environment supports their development, through effective co-operation, challenging assignments, and cross-training. Identify high potential employees for leadership assignments.
  • Develop staff by coaching in formal settings one-on-one. Support employee performance through situational coaching of issues impacting the business, sharing knowledge/experience, and by providing challenging work with opportunities for staff to take/share responsibility for the delivery of key initiatives, to achieve business objectives/goals. Identify areas requiring development, provide opportunities to correct including support of attendance at courses specific to the area of focus and monitor progress through-out the year.
  • Provide interim progress updates regarding performance and provide solutions to address any issues in coaching sessions and semi-annually at interim performance update sessions.
