About The Position

The Senior Manager, Feed Safety & Quality is responsible for leading all feed safety, regulatory compliance, and quality management systems across the company’s feed manufacturing facilities. This role ensures full compliance with FDA FSMA regulations and other applicable federal and state requirements while driving continuous improvement in feed quality, operational performance, and food safety culture. The position provides technical expertise, system-wide oversight, and strategic leadership to support safe, efficient, and compliant feed production that optimizes animal performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in Animal Science, Feed Science, Food Safety, Agriculture, or related field and 8+ years of relevant experience in feed manufacturing, feed safety, QA/QC, or regulatory compliance; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • 2+ years of demonstrated experience in team management/development or project leadership required.
  • Strong knowledge of FSMA regulations for animal food, CGMPs, hazard analysis, and preventive controls.
  • PCQI certification (or ability to obtain).
  • Experience with FDA inspections, internal auditing, and CAPA processes.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to travel regularly to company feed mills.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all feed safety, quality, and regulatory programs to ensure full compliance with FDA FSMA and USDA requirements and other applicable regulations.
  • Ensure adherence to Packers & Stockyards (P&S) regulations related to fair feed weighing, recordkeeping, and transparent transactions.
  • Manage feed manufacturing registration and license renewals.
  • Lead and support all FDA inspections at company feed mills.
  • Design, implement, and manage FSMA compliance programs across all mills, including Food Safety & Quality Plans.
  • Maintain and update SOPs to ensure practices remain current, compliant, and consistently applied.
  • Implement FSMA and food safety training for all feed mill employees; oversee PCQI certification requirements.
  • Develop and manage the Supplier Verification Program (SVP).
  • Ensure compliance with all feeding system regulatory requirements, including documentation and functionality.
  • Oversee and maintain feed labels and sequencing charts for company facilities.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, verification records, and audit readiness.
  • Conduct routine mill visits, internal audits, and facility performance assessments.
  • Perform mock feed recalls and maintain traceability readiness.
  • Lead root-cause investigations and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs).
  • Respond promptly to process deviations, hazards, and documentation issues using data-driven decision making.
  • Provide technical support to resolve recurring quality failures such as assay failures or pellet quality issues.
  • Partner with Feed Milling and Operations teams to proactively prevent FSMA, HACCP, SOP, and production failures.
  • Develop system-wide improvement plans and train teams to uphold high safety and quality standards.
  • Evaluate quality control processes to streamline workflows and identify cost-reduction opportunities.
  • Identify and implement technology improvements that enhance analytical accuracy and reduce costs.
  • Develop and implement standardized reporting dashboards for production and finished product quality data.
  • Provide regular reports to Feed Mill Management and Operations teams on compliance status, timelines, and quality KPIs.
  • Design and oversee quality data reporting systems that support continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the SHP internal QA lab to ensure consistent production of safe, high-quality feed.
  • Develop and deliver training for a standardized, system-wide quality program.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with FDA, State regulatory officials, and P&S enforcement representatives.
  • Comply with all company SIPS, EMS, and BMS policies and procedures.
  • Immediately report environmental issues to appropriate supervisors.
  • Understand and follow the company’s emergency notification process; ensure site-level compliance.
