About The Position

The Senior Manager, Digital Editorial & Web Content leads the Whitney's editorial voice, standards, and content quality across its owned digital platforms, primarily whitney.org, Bloomberg Connects, YouTube, and related properties. This role brings a managing editor mindset to the Museum's digital presence, shaping editorial vision and defining how scholarship, exhibitions, and institutional programs are translated into clear, engaging, audience-centered content. Working in close partnership with the Assistant Director, Digital Content, who leads platform strategy, audience growth, and performance, this role is the editorial counterpart accountable for the quality, consistency, and resonance of content across owned channels. The Senior Manager works deeply and consistently with Education, Curatorial, Exhibitions, Publications, and Rights Management translating scholarship and institutional knowledge into clear, engaging, and responsible digital editorial experiences.

Requirements

  • 7–10 years of experience in digital editorial leadership, content strategy, or web publishing, with a strong preference for managing editor–level experience.
  • Demonstrated success working with complex content, multiple stakeholders, and rights-sensitive material.
  • Strong understanding of audience-centered editorial, digital analytics, and editorial performance.
  • Fluency in CMS platforms, accessibility standards, and modern web publishing practices.
  • Proven people management experience and comfort leading change within institutions.
  • Familiarity with Bloomberg Connects or comparable mobile guide platforms, including content strategy, publishing workflows, and audience engagement considerations.

Responsibilities

  • Define and own the editorial vision for content on the Whitney's owned platforms (Whitney.org, Bloomberg Connects, YouTube), grounded in audience insight, institutional priorities, and best-in-class digital publishing practices, in alignment with platform strategy set in partnership with the Assistant Director of Digital Content.
  • Lead editorial standards and interpretive quality on Bloomberg Connects, in partnership with the Content Coordinator who manages day-to-day execution.
  • Champion new editorial formats, storytelling approaches and interpretive models contributing to audience growth on owned platforms.
  • Translate exhibitions, interpretive frameworks, educational content, and institutional initiatives into compelling digital editorial structures.
  • With the Web Operations Manager, data, analytics, and qualitative insight to inform editorial decisions and evolve content strategy over time.
  • Serve as the primary owner of editorial content across whitney.org, ensuring accuracy, consistency of institutional voice, accessibility, and usability.
  • Lead editorial oversight of all frequently updated content (exhibitions, calendar, ticketing and visit-related pages), establishing sustainable workflows and accountability.
  • Set and maintain editorial standards, style guidelines, and publishing best practices for the Museum’s web platforms.
  • Lead editorial voice and storytelling standards for the Whitney's YouTube channel, in partnership with the Assistant Director on channel strategy, audience development, and the channel's role within the Museum's broader digital ecosystem.
  • Set editorial standards for video packaging from an audience and editorial perspective, including titles, descriptions, metadata, thumbnails, and contextual framing, in close collaboration with Creative and Video teams.
  • Define publishing cadence and channel rhythms, ensuring alignment with exhibitions, programs, institutional priorities, and long-term audience development goals.
  • Own the editorial calendar across owned platforms, ensuring alignment with exhibitions, programs, and institutional priorities, in coordination with the Assistant Director on cadence tied to audience development goals.
  • Partner closely with Education and Curatorial teams to translate scholarship and exhibition narratives into digital editorial formats appropriate for broad audiences.
  • Collaborate with Education to align digital content with interpretive goals, learning frameworks, and access initiatives.
  • Work with Publications, Research, and colleagues in Digital Content to ensure appropriate use, adaptation, and clearance of texts, images, video, and audio across digital platforms.
  • Partner with Product and Design to align editorial intent with platform functionality, UX, and long-term digital roadmaps.
  • Collaborate with Communications and Marketing to ensure editorial content supports narrative, audience development, and institutional priorities without collapsing into promotion.
  • Oversee production of content aligned with the editorial calendar, setting priorities and sequencing in alignment with exhibitions, programs, and institutional milestones.
  • Alongside Assistant Director of Digital Content, project-manage digital initiatives including editorial features, video and audio content, mobile guide content, and special web projects.
  • Ensure rights clearance, accessibility standards and timelines are met across all projects.
  • Directly manage and mentor the Web Operations Manager and Content Coordinator, setting clear expectations and editorial standards.
  • Build and document scalable editorial workflows that support both day-to-day publishing and high-visibility moments.
