About The Position

As a Senior Manager - Data Risk and Governance in the Global Functions Data Management Office within the Chief Data Office at RBC, you are responsible for reviewing and assessing Global Functions risk assessments including Data Risk Assessments, Privacy Risk Assessments and Supplier Risk Management Assessments to ensure effective review and challenge. You will also build and maintain relationships with the business enabling robust management of risks through controls adhering to relevant procedures, standards, and policies. This role positions you as a strategic risk and governance expert with exposure to enterprise-scale data management, emerging AI/privacy regulations, and senior stakeholder influence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Extensive knowledge of data management, privacy, compliance, and regulatory risk management practices
  • Demonstrated track record of effective communication across all levels
  • Strong ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders
  • Self-directed professional capable of working independently and collaboratively within a team environment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the financial services industry
  • Privacy accreditation (IAPP – International Association of Privacy Professionals)
  • Data Management Capability Assessment Model (DCAM®) training or certification

Responsibilities

  • Execute consistent risk assessment – Strengthen review and challenge across Global Functions to ensure effective controls to enterprise information management risk.
  • Identify and escalate issues – Raise and record concerns with relevant personnel as they arise, both actual and prospective.
  • Provide guidance and resources – Advise submitters on standards, policies, procedures, tools, methodologies, and solutions aligned with segment/function risk needs.
  • Review data management practices – Challenge the business on how they manage data risk; maintain understanding of RBC's data collection, usage, and storage practices.
  • Assess inherent data risks – Provide expertise on Data Accountability, Data Quality, Data Sourcing, Aggregation & Provisioning, Data Sharing and Usage, Data Reporting, and Data Retention & Destruction.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance – Understand and apply privacy regulations across jurisdictions (GDPR, CCPA, PIPEDA, etc.) and evaluate control adequacy and effectiveness.
  • Support personal information protection – Work with Segments and Functions to protect Personal Information in accordance with applicable privacy regulatory requirements and responsible use practices.
  • Stay current on landscape – Research and monitor the data, privacy, and AI landscape; stay updated on relevant bills, policies, standards, and regulations and their RBC application.
