About The Position

The Senior Manager – Corporate Accounting is responsible for assisting with corporate accounting functions as well as general accounting functions for Morton Salt, Windsor Salt, and SCIH Salt Holdings. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with US GAAP and regulatory requirements and maintaining strong internal controls while supporting the overall strategic financial decision-making functions of the business. This role will have oversight and participate in technical accounting areas of leases, quarterly / annual goodwill impairment, going concern analyses, and preparing technical accounting memos as deemed necessary. This role will oversee and manage the global lease process for the Company in addition to providing individual contributions for areas previously noted.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • 5 years of business experience with a minimum of 3 years of managerial experience in positions of increasing responsibility.
  • Proven leadership, team buildings, and coaching skills.
  • Strong technical accounting skills - deep knowledge of US GAAP and ASC 842.
  • Experience within a manufacturing industry preferred.
  • SAP experience preferred or ability to quickly understand and use systems.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Familiarity with SOX compliance and internal control frameworks.
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical, problem solving, and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and challenge current processes while offering solutions to create efficiencies.
  • Attention to detail and willingness to get into detailed information in order to understand processes, results, etc.
  • Exceptional knowledge of Excel.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA preferred.
  • Experience with OneStream account reconciliation software or similar tools.
  • Experience with other ERPs such as Microsoft Navision, Microsoft Great Plains, or Infor.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Company-wide lease accounting process for North and South America, including one direct report and the review of lease identification and classification, quarterly journal entries, lease roll forward reconciliations, technical accounting research, and annual footnote disclosures.
  • Ensure accounting policies and internal controls are maintained and in compliance with SOX standards for the lease accounting process.
  • Seek opportunities to improve and streamline the lease accounting process in LeaseQuery with the transition to a new ERP over the next several years.
  • Preparation of the quarterly and annual going concern analysis, quarterly and annual fixed asset impairment analysis (including developing a template to be used by plant controllers), and preparation of the carrying value by segment for the annual goodwill impairment analysis.
  • Develop a strong understanding of the company revenue recognition process, document procedures and ensure compliance with ASC 606. Create quarterly / annual methodology to test compliance by working with Financial Reporting Manager.
  • Train as a backup to assist with the treasury process for Morton, Windsor, and SCIH which could include timely review and approval of wire transactions, approving payroll funding, and completion of the weekly corporate accounts payable cycle.
  • Assist the Director of Accounting with the monthly journal entry analysis and review process for the global company to ensure journal entries above the policy specified threshold are properly supported and reviewed in a timely manner. Lead the extraction of data from various ERP systems to load to external tool to analyze data.
  • Serve as a partner to the Senior Director – Financial Reporting and the Corporate Controller for ad hoc projects and memos (M&A activity, debt modifications / extinguishments, held for sale accounting, shared based compensation activity, etc).
  • Prepare monthly / quarterly analysis of various accruals (trade / non-trade deductions, vacation accruals, blue box recycling accruals) to ensure proper accruals are in place. Gain understanding of each process and identify / implement process improvements.
  • Serve as a business partner to controlling, customer service, accounting services, and other teams as necessary to ensure transactions are properly processed within the system.
  • Assist in the preparation of quarterly balance sheet and income statement flux analysis completed by the financial reporting department.
  • Participation in the annual audit process through preparation of PBCs and various memos as necessitated by activity in the business.
  • Assist in the preparation and review of company statistical reporting as needed.
  • Gain an in depth understanding of SAP to validate information prepared by the business, learn how to process transactions and conduct research and assist business partners as needed. This includes an understanding of reports, queries, journal entry processing, account balance details / transactions, inquiries of purchase orders, etc.
  • Train on the new ERP and become a super user.
  • Identify unusual transactions through knowledge of the business and communication with general accounting and other business partners. Determine how the transaction should be handled from an accounting perspective and ensure properly recorded in the system.
