About The Position

The National Audubon Society is seeking a Senior Manager, Clean Energy Infrastructure Policy to join its national Climate Team. This role will report to the Senior Director of Climate Strategies and will work closely with state/regional policy staff to promote high-impact state policies that align with the organization’s clean energy infrastructure goals. The primary focus will be on influencing the rapid and responsible adoption of utility-scale wind and solar projects and the necessary expansion of the transmission grid for the clean energy transition. The Senior Manager will be responsible for developing and executing key aspects of this policy agenda, identifying new opportunities, and fostering collaboration in critical states. This position will provide essential policy research, analysis, writing, and strategic guidance, augmenting the capacity of state-level teams. The role will also support the Senior Director in creating and distributing guidance materials, including background information for consultants and content for internal communications. This position is classified as hybrid preferred, requiring in-office work on Mondays and Tuesdays, plus two additional days per month. Remote work within the United States may be considered for candidates outside commuting distance of an Audubon office.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 7+ years of demonstrated experience in clean energy or transmission policy issues, or conservation policy development applicable to clean energy projects or related infrastructure on public and private lands. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.
  • Demonstrated understanding of wildlife conservation issues, including methods for avoiding, minimizing, and mitigating conflicts between clean energy infrastructure development and wildlife.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, excellent time management, and organizational skills.
  • Experience in project management with a proven track record of successful project completion.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve conflicts creatively and with good science.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Outstanding policy analysis and research skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills adaptable to a wide range of audiences and for building consensus.
  • Ability to synthesize and communicate technical and complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • A flexible approach to work.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10 times per year for project-related work and trainings.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Support Audubon’s clean energy and transmission state policy engagement to advance the organization’s Energy Initiative objectives, working with the Climate Program team, policy, conservation, and communications leaders, State Policy Directors, and the grassroots network.
  • Identify high-impact state policy priorities aligned with federal policy goals and assess policy opportunities in key states, in coordination with the Senior Director.
  • Develop and implement strategies to achieve policy goals and objectives, providing leadership on issues supporting the rapid and responsible deployment of clean energy infrastructure, in close coordination with policy and government affairs staff.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments through state/regional staff and partner organizations.
  • Raise the profile of Audubon’s policy goals and expertise among state policy education organizations.
  • Represent Audubon with key partners and coalitions focused on shared policy goals, including delivering testimony before decision-making bodies.
  • Monitor or attend regulatory meetings, legislative proceedings, and relevant events in targeted states.
  • Serve as a resource for state/regional policy teams by providing issue briefs and other supporting materials.
  • Collaborate with communications and policy staff on communications and digital organizing efforts, providing materials for various platforms.
  • Identify and mobilize key allies and stakeholders to amplify policy priorities with decision-makers, in partnership with state/regional staff.
  • Coordinate with state/regional staff to draft and promote action alerts and engagement opportunities for Audubon chapters and members.
  • Represent Audubon with national coalitions and partner organizations focused on related state policies.
  • Support a culture of philanthropy and identify funding opportunities for clean energy infrastructure deployment.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the Americas on joint planning and execution of shared priorities.
  • Maintain and foster a culture of safety.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
