About The Position

The National Audubon Society is seeking a Senior Manager, Clean Energy Infrastructure Policy to join their national Climate Team. This role will report to the Senior Director of Climate Strategies and will focus on fostering high-impact state policies to support clean energy infrastructure goals, including the responsible onboarding of wind and solar projects and the necessary transmission grid expansion. The Senior Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing policy agendas, identifying opportunities, and building collaboration in key states. This position will provide policy research, analysis, writing, and strategic guidance, supporting state-level capacity. The role will also assist the Senior Director in providing guidance and tools for internal communications and external consultants. This position is classified as hybrid preferred, requiring in-office work on Mondays and Tuesdays, plus two additional days per month. Remote work may be considered for candidates not within commuting distance of an Audubon office.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 7+ years demonstrated experience in clean energy or transmission policy issues, or conservation policy development that applies to clean energy projects or related infrastructure on public and private lands.
  • Demonstrated understanding of wildlife conservation issues, including methods for avoiding, minimizing, and mitigating conflicts between clean energy infrastructure development and wildlife.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, excellent time management, and organizational skills.
  • Experience in project management with a proven track record of successful project completion.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve conflicts creatively and with good science.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Outstanding policy analysis and research skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills that can be adapted to reach a wide range of individuals and used to build consensus.
  • Ability to synthesize and communicate technical and complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • A flexible approach to work.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10 times per year for project-related work and trainings.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Support Audubon’s clean energy and transmission state policy engagement to advance the organization’s Energy Initiative objectives.
  • Identify high-impact state policy priorities that align with federal policy goals and assess policy opportunities in key states.
  • Develop and implement strategies to support policy goals and objectives, providing leadership on issues related to clean energy infrastructure deployment.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments at the state and regional levels.
  • Raise the profile of Audubon’s policy goals and expertise among state policy education organizations.
  • Represent Audubon with key partners and coalitions, including preparing and delivering testimony.
  • Monitor or attend regulatory meetings, legislative proceedings, and relevant events in targeted states.
  • Serve as a resource for state/regional policy teams by providing issue briefs and other supporting materials.
  • Collaborate with communications and policy staff on communications and digital organizing efforts.
  • Identify and mobilize key allies and stakeholders to amplify policy priorities.
  • Draft and promote action alerts and engagement opportunities for Audubon chapters and members.
  • Represent Audubon with national coalitions and partner organizations focused on related state policies.
  • Support a culture of philanthropy and identify funding opportunities for clean energy infrastructure deployment.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the Americas.
  • Maintain and foster a culture of safety.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
